Region "Mabi"

Mabi is a region that spreads along the Oda River in the northwest part of Kurashiki City.

The place name is derived from the scholar Kibi no Makibi of the Nara period, and it retains a long history, including the Yata Otsuka Burial Mound, which has one of the largest stone chambers in the country. It is also the town where the writer Seishi Yokomizo, who created the famous detective Kindaichi Kosuke, evacuated, and the evacuation house still remains. It is known as a bamboo-producing area, and in spring, bamboo shoots are in season.

In the heavy rain of July 2018, the levees of the Oda River and others broke, flooding a wide area of the town and causing significant damage.
