Hayashima Town is the smallest town in Okayama Prefecture by area, surrounded by Okayama City and Kurashiki City.
It flourished as a town known for igusa rush and hanagoza woven rush mats. In summer, the Hayashima-Kurashiki Hanagoza Festival is held, carrying on the culture of igusa to this day. It is also a town with expanding residential areas, serving as a bedroom community for both cities.
