Summer of 2022. Are you making plans for an outing?
At the Kasaoka Bay Farm Roadside Station in Kasaoka City, Okayama, various flowers bloom throughout the year in the vast reclaimed land.
Among them, the most popular are the vibrant sunflowers that spread across the entire view.
The number is an astonishing approximately 1 million.
In this article, I will report on my visit to see the sunflowers at the Kasaoka Bay Farm Roadside Station in search of a summery landscape.
The information provided is from an article published in July 2022. Please note that it may differ from current information.
Parking at Kasaoka Bay Farm Roadside Station
The parking at Kasaoka Bay Farm Roadside Station is located in three areas: in front of the station, beside it, and in Area A a little further away.
Since I wanted to shop after seeing the sunflowers, I parked in the lot next to the station.

Blooming status of sunflowers by area
The areas where sunflowers can be seen are A, B, C, and D.
Since the blooming seasons are different, you can enjoy sunflowers anytime from late June to mid-September.
You can check the location of the areas on the sign next to the station building.

The blooming status is posted on the Kasaoka City website, so it is recommended to check it before you go.
Sunflowers in Area D. See you next year
July 13, 2022.
Area D is located behind the station building.
This area blooms early, and the peak was from late June to early July.

It has been completely harvested.
In the adjacent field, zinnias (Hyakunin-sou) were blooming.
These zinnias are also colorful and pleasing to the eyes.

Sunflowers in Area A. From peak to end
On the same day, July 13, 2022.
Area A is a little further from the parking lot of the station.
After watching the still small sprouts in Area B, I walked for a few minutes.

I was able to meet youthful and fresh sunflowers.
There are many buds, but it feels like quite a few are already blooming.

Some are still small and tightly closed, while others are gradually opening.
It is fun to visit during their growth and see various expressions.

It’s amazing how small petals can grow this large when they open. It’s quite mysterious.

Bees diligently collecting pollen. I took photos quietly so as not to disturb them.

There are several small paths in the field, allowing you to view the landscape from various angles.

A leisurely walk through the sea of sunflowers.
It’s a moment of healing.

On the day of the interview, there were colorful birds that looked like they belonged in a tropical or Amazonian setting.
They are a rare type of parrot called the Congo parrot.

The calm and intelligent parrots will perch on your arm or shoulder.
The surface and feathers are different colors.
They are very colorful and beautiful.

These famous parrots appear at various events irregularly.
They are scheduled to appear at the Kasaoka Bay Farm Roadside Station sunflower field about twice a week.

There was a handmade small observation deck where you could overlook the entire field.
Sunflowers are said to be the national flower of Ukraine.
The blue sky and the color of the sunflowers waved in the wind like a flag.

July 17, 2022.
In just a few days, the sunflowers had matured completely.
The large, sharp flowers spread across the entire view.
Wow! Amazing! Beautiful! I could hear cheers from all around.

On the day of the interview, it was bustling with many people.
Parents and grandparents watched lovingly as children enjoyed themselves.
Couples and groups of friends walked happily.
Some people spent their time leisurely, without worrying about the clock.

Everyone gazed at the stunning view with sparkling eyes, engrossed in taking photos.

Looking at the vibrant vitamin-colored sunflowers brightens your mood and energizes you.
This is summer! I thoroughly enjoyed the scenery.
ーーーー
July 20, 2022.
Perhaps due to the consecutive hot days, their faces are gradually drooping.
The petals are also starting to wilt.

It seems that the peak of Area A is coming to an end.
Thank you for the wonderful memories.
Sunflowers in Area C. Blooming soon
July 20, 2022.
Area C is located in front of the station.
The back part was slightly blooming, but the front was mostly still in bud.
The expected peak is from late July to early August.

This Area C is 5 hectares, making it the largest among the four areas.
Area A, which felt sufficiently large, is 2 hectares, so this area is more than twice as large.

I am very excited to see what kind of stunning scenery will be visible from August.
I definitely want to visit again during the peak season.
Sunflowers in Area B. The last place to enjoy
July 13, 2022.
Area B is located on the side of the station, just before you reach Area A.
Here, the sprouts have just started to grow, and blooming seems to be the last.

Area B is the second largest, with 4 hectares.
The expected peak is from mid-August to mid-September.
They are growing steadily, and I look forward to their blooming.

Shopping at Kasaoka Bay Farm Roadside Station
Inside the Kasaoka Bay Farm Roadside Station, fresh vegetables, fruits, seafood, bento, desserts, and various food items and souvenirs from the Kasaoka area are sold.
I always secretly enjoy shopping and taking a break at the roadside station after enjoying the flower scenery.

There are light snacks available at the shop next to the entrance.
It is always bustling with many customers.
For those who prefer snacks over flowers or those who are hungry after walking around, come together!

Since they cook after receiving orders, you can enjoy freshly made croquettes and more.
On that very hot day, soft serve ice cream was selling like hotcakes.
Flavors include milk, grape, and mix.
There are also small sizes available, making it recommended for those who can't eat much or for children.

From the Writer
I explored the four areas of sunflowers blooming around the Kasaoka Bay Farm Roadside Station to understand their blooming status.
