A flyer distributed from my daughter's elementary school included a pamphlet for the Christmas & New Year concert of the Kurashiki Children's Choir.
Until now, I had no connection to the choir and only had the image of the "Vienna Boys' Choir," but I decided to participate with my daughter to enjoy it as a Christmas event.
Overview of the "Kurashiki Children's Choir Christmas Concert"
The "Kurashiki Children's Choir," established in 1972, holds a Christmas concert every year as a regular event.
The Christmas concert for the fiscal year 2023 was held on December 24, 2023, at Kurashiki Civic Hall. Additionally, this year, a special New Year concert will also be held on January 20, 2024.
The main performances are as follows:
- Silent Night
- My Neighbor Totoro
- "Edelweiss" and "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music
- The Phantom of the Opera, etc.
Participation in the Concert
On the day of the event, there was also a "Yamaha Electone Festival" at the same time, making it very crowded with families, but we were smoothly guided to the reception by the choir's support staff.

- Part 2: 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
The concert was divided into two parts, and we participated in Part 1.
Choir
The uniforms were coordinated and adorable, and I was surprised at how lively and disciplined even the youngest children were.
The youngest child has been enrolled since before starting school.
The singing, acting, and costumes were all authentic.
The Phantom of the Opera
The Phantom of the Opera appeared.
The dress of the child playing Christine was beautiful, and I couldn't take my eyes off it.
I was thrilled to see such iconic scenes from musicals up close.
I came to see the children's choir, but before I knew it, I felt as if I had entered the world of the Shiki Theatre Company.
Conclusion
When I spoke with the choir members, I received the following message:
The Kurashiki Children's Choir won the Grand Prize at the 76th All Japan Choir Competition in the University and Workplace General Division held in November 2023, shining as the best in Japan for the first time in 50 years for Okayama Prefecture.
It seems that their courtesy visit to the Okayama Governor and the Kurashiki City Mayor was also in the news.
Having been rooted in Kurashiki for about 50 years since its establishment, I would like to support the Kurashiki Children's Choir as they continue to spread culture.
By the way, this year (2024), a special New Year concert will be held on January 20 (Sunday) at the Mabi Interaction Center, so please make sure to attend.
