“Ohisama Marche” is an event held at Ohisama Plaza, north of Welcia Kurashiki Mabi Store in Mabi, Kurashiki City.
It began as a place where everyone in Mabi could gather and relax.
It is held on the fourth Saturday of every month, and anyone is welcome to stop by.
This event, held on April 23, 2022, was apparently the first one of the year.
Various specialty shops set up stalls, divided into the “Food” and “Handicrafts and Other” sections.

Meet Mabi’s bamboo! Bamboo Craft Club
I spotted wooden spoons and forks.
Or so I thought! They had spoons and forks made from bamboo.
This is the booth for the Bamboo Craft Club.
Mabi, Kurashiki City, is the largest bamboo shoot-producing area in Okayama Prefecture.
Bamboo shoots, of course, come from bamboo.
I discovered a local specialty of Mabi at Ohisama Marche.
There were also bamboo toys for children to play with.
On closer inspection, I spotted bamboo-copter toys sure to spark an adult’s playful side.
I couldn’t resist buying one and tried flying the bamboo-copter.
Watching the bamboo-copter fly through the air brought back memories of playing carefree as a child.
Find charming tableware and goods at Kanto
I spotted a booth lined with small items such as plates and chopstick rests.
As I browsed, the lovely owner of Kanto came over to talk to me.
Apparently, the owner sells tableware and goods selected by them.
There is no physical store; items are available only through online shopping.
It was apparently the shop’s first time setting up a stall.
The chopstick rests in particular come in a wide variety of shapes and colors.
I couldn’t decide which to choose because they were all so cute. Even just looking at them was exciting.
They would make mealtime more enjoyable just by adding them to the table.
Connecting dogs and people: Peace Wanko Japan Okayama Adoption Center
I spotted a booth with a crowd gathered around it.
It was an adoption event run by Peace Wanko Japan Okayama Adoption Center, which connects dogs with people.
The staff showed visitors how to touch and pet the dogs.
I carefully moved closer so I wouldn’t startle the dog with a loud noise.
The dog looked right at the camera!
They apparently also hold adoption events at other events around Okayama Prefecture.

Hearty karaage at Honenuki
The aroma of freshly fried meat wafted from the karaage shop Honenuki.
As I watched, the cheerful owner came over to talk to me.
They apparently usually sell from a food truck in Hayashi, Kurashiki City.
You can enjoy karaage, karaage rice bowls, and croquettes.
There are plenty of karaage options in particular.
I ordered karaage for lunch.
Freshly fried karaage.
It’s a generous portion, with a crispy outside. The karaage flavor fills your mouth.
I found out later that you can also have it seasoned with curry flavor.
The curry flavor sounds tempting. I’ll try it next time.

It’s an event where you can discover lots of wonderful shops.
Other appealing stalls sell things like soup and goods.
I can’t wait for the next one!
Mabi, Kurashiki City, suffered extensive damage in the July 2018 torrential rains.
With many people helping and supporting one another, the town is moving toward recovery.
The many warm hearts have helped shape Mabi as it is today and brought new smiles to its people.
