Interview with Hiroko Fukushima
I spoke with Hiroko Fukushima, who runs Atelier Daisy.
Why did you name it "atelier" instead of "class"?

When you hear "class," I think the image of a teacher teaching students is strong.
However, here, I want the children to express themselves freely.
I want to value the process more than just completing the work.
I hope that parents will enjoy growing together with their children while watching them engage in their activities.
What kind of time do you want the children to spend?

I want them to value thinking for themselves and making their own decisions.
The satisfaction and sense of achievement gained from seeing things through to the end becomes a great confidence.
Failure is also an important experience, and they can always recreate new works.
During activities, I speak to them in English, but I hope they can naturally come into contact with English as a "fun experience" rather than as a study.
Can you share a memorable episode?

At first, one child couldn't separate from their parent and left most of the creation to them.
However, as they attended more sessions, they gradually began to engage on their own, and ultimately, they were able to create their own work confidently.
Seeing that child gain confidence and become more flexible in their thinking was very moving.
What kind of families do you recommend this for?
Fukushima
For children who are already learning English, it can be used as a place for output.
It is also perfect for families who have children who love drawing and making things, and want to nurture their sensitivity and self-esteem through art.
Additionally, children who are shy or not used to new places can come with peace of mind. The small group setting, where parents and children can enjoy together, is also appealing.
I hope those who want to convey that "it's okay to be different" and "it's okay to be free" will visit.
