Of course, there are times when one thinks, "If only I could write a little more beautifully," and there may be people who feel that "I am not good at writing."

The "Kayu Calligraphy Class" located in Kurashiki City is a calligraphy school that values not only writing beautifully but also wanting students to like their own handwriting and enjoy writing.

Having started the class 15 years ago, it has continued to operate in the community, supporting each individual's pace from children to adults.

We spoke with Master Kayu about the thoughts they want to convey through calligraphy and their future outlook.

Overview of Kayu Calligraphy Class

Kayu Calligraphy Class is a calligraphy school located in Fukuda, Kurashiki City.

Since Master Kayu opened the class 15 years ago,
it started in Bizen City, where her family home is, and moved to Kurashiki after getting married. While continuing to borrow local facilities, the current classroom was established in 2022.

Creating a Class with Small Numbers

Currently, about 40 students from kindergarten to 6th grade are attending. To ensure that each student can be carefully attended to, classes are held with 5 to 6 students per session, mainly on weekday evenings.

Additionally, to learn how to interact with children, she has obtained the "Childminder" qualification, which originated in the UK. She aims to provide support that respects each child's individuality and feelings while valuing their pace, not just focusing on calligraphy skills.

What Kayu Calligraphy Class values is not only "writing beautifully." Through writing, they want students to gain confidence in their handwriting and to love the act of writing itself. With this mindset, they face the children every day.

Programs for Adults

In recent years, they have also been focusing on initiatives for adults.
Starting in January 2026, they will hold a monthly "Copying Sutras Group" to provide time for calming the mind through writing. Furthermore, from July of the same year, an adult "Adult Calligraphy Club" will also start.

They aim to be a place where people of all generations can not only learn calligraphy but also face themselves and spend enriching time in the community.
