On FM Kurashiki, every Saturday from 8 AM to 9 AM, we broadcast "Gather! Elementary School Students".

The personality, Asuka Abe, visits elementary schools in Kurashiki City to interview children who talk about the charm of their schools and school districts, as well as their big dreams. Through the genuine voices of the children, we can once again feel the charm of the community.

In the broadcast on March 28, 2026 (Saturday), we introduced the situation at "Mizushima Elementary School" located in Mizushima, Kurashiki City.

We will deliver the lively voices of the children.

FM Kurashiki "Gather! Elementary School Students"

In "Gather! Elementary School Students," we conduct direct interviews with 6th graders at the visited elementary schools, deeply exploring the charm of the schools everyone attends. Additionally, the "School District Pride" segment, where children share the good and favorite aspects of their community from their perspective, is also noteworthy.

They talk about their exciting future dreams and express gratitude to their families who are always with them... We will also present heartwarming interviews that will surely touch the hearts of adults.

This time, we visited Mizushima Elementary School located in Mizushima, Kurashiki City. It is a cozy school with 64 students, where the children are nurtured warmly by the local community and can spend their time freely.

The Charm of Mizushima Elementary School was immediately shared by the children.

About Mizushima Elementary School

The first to introduce the school is Misao Omori. She showed no signs of nervousness and presented her information clearly and loudly.

Omori said, "Mizushima Elementary School has a small number of students, but because of that, we support and help each other, making it the best school."

One of the great charms is the very active interaction across grades.
In the "Vertical Group Activities," students from 1st to 6th grades come together to clean and play. Especially the 6th graders are always thinking about the younger students, planning games for them to enjoy.

Seeing the younger children happy with the games they planned is a great encouragement for the older students as well.

Additionally, the seasonal scenery that decorates the school is also a point of pride.
In spring, the cherry blossoms in the courtyard bloom beautifully, and in winter, beautiful illuminations adorn the front of the school. The flower beds are also filled with a variety of flowers.

Omori concluded with the words, "I want to cherish the traditions of Mizushima Elementary School." The strong bonds unique to a small number of students and the warm environment where they can feel the seasons are indeed the charm of Mizushima Elementary School.

Children of Mizushima Elementary School Talk About "School & School District Pride"

Next, we will introduce the "pride in the school and school district" that the children are proud of.

Three children presented the charms of Mizushima Elementary School and the school district in a ranking format.

3rd Place: Meeting Friends After School! Many Play Areas in the School District

Yukito Makino shared the 3rd place pride, which is the many play areas within the school district.

In the school district, there is a children's center, and there are about 10 parks near the school. The parks have unique playground equipment that is not available at school, making them perfect play areas for the children. After school, many students gather across grades to play together, which seems to be a daily occurrence at Mizushima Elementary School.

The environment where children can enjoy themselves with friends outside of school is one of the prides they want to cherish in their school district.

2nd Place: Pleasant Greetings with Local People

Next, Daichi Takahashi shared the 2nd place pride, which is the pleasant greetings exchanged with local people.

During morning arrivals and evening departures, the children greet local residents cheerfully when they meet them. By exchanging greetings, better interactions with the community are created, and the distance between them is greatly reduced.

Takahashi expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I want to continue to greet actively and proactively." Through everyday greetings, warm bonds with local people are nurtured, which can be considered a unique pride of the school district.

1st Place: Active Interaction with Local People Uniting the Mizushima School District

Finally, the 1st place pride was announced by Koumei Tanaka. He highlighted the very active interaction between the school and the community as his top pride.

At Mizushima Elementary School, they hold a "District Joint Sports Day," which is a sports event conducted together with the community, where children enjoy the competitions alongside local residents.

Additionally, during evacuation drills, local residents participate and actually evacuate to the school building, establishing a strong cooperative system for disaster prevention. This must be a reassuring presence for the children.

Through such activities, Tanaka feels a strong sense of unity, saying, "The community is united as one." The relationship where each resident supports one another, transcending the boundaries of the school, is the greatest charm that Mizushima Elementary School boasts.

Although Mizushima Elementary School has a small number of students, the children have strong bonds that transcend grades and deep connections with local people. It is evident that not only the school but the entire community watches over and supports the children.

Voices of Children Looking Towards the Future

After learning about the school's charms, we also asked everyone about their future dreams.

The five children who answered the interview shared their aspirations.
They mentioned wanting to be a professional baseball player, designing products for their favorite characters, becoming a registered dietitian at a confectionery company, and one friend said, "I haven't decided yet, but I want to study hard in junior high!" Imagining everyone's future selves is exciting.

The sight of children challenging themselves with their "favorite things" as motivation gives us adults great courage and inspiration.
