【April 25-26】The 44th Heartland Kurashiki Spring - Experience the Extraordinary with River Boat Drifting

This representative tourist destination of Okayama Prefecture is bustling with many visitors every day. The view of the white-walled buildings lining the main street along the Kurashiki River feels like stepping back in time. On April 25 (Saturday) and 26 (Sunday), 2026, the annual event "44th Heartland Kurashiki Spring" will be held, featuring the traditional riverboat procession during the spring session.

What is Heartland Kurashiki?

Heartland Kurashiki, which started in 1981, is an event that has been loved by many people in the Bikan Historical Area. Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was held during the daytime of the Golden Week in 2019.

Due to the impact of the pandemic, it was canceled for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021, but it resumed in 2022. With its revival, the event was moved to the night in August.

The transition from daytime to nighttime brought a complete change in content. It became an event to enjoy light-ups.

Then in 2025, Heartland Kurashiki underwent further changes.
In response to calls for the traditional spring event, it was decided to hold it twice, in spring and autumn. The riverboat procession, which had been a symbolic feature of Heartland Kurashiki, was revived during the spring session.

Highlights of the Spring Session 2026

This year (2026), just like last year, the riverboat procession featuring the Wisteria Maiden and the Bride of Seto by Kurashiki Komachi will take place. The Wisteria Maiden, adorned with the city flower "wisteria," and the Bride of Seto in a white wedding kimono will gently glide along the Kurashiki River.

Last year (2025), the Wisteria Maiden and the Bride of Seto appeared alternately in one day, but this year they will be on separate days. The Wisteria Maiden will board on the first day, and the Bride of Seto on the second day, allowing for different ways to enjoy the event depending on the day.

Regarding the revival of the spring session, he said with a smile, "We held it last spring, and we heard nostalgic voices from those who remembered the past events. I'm glad they enjoyed it."
