We heard about the thoughts and commitment towards indigo products through an interview with store manager Ishimoto Risa.

What is Konoito tsumugu?

As you walk through the Bikan Historical Area, you will see a row of charming shops housed in renovated old houses.

One shop that particularly catches the eye is this one, with its beautiful vibrant indigo color.

An apparel brand for indigo-dyed stoles and knits called tsumugu.

Utilizing over 50 years of expertise in denim processing, they create clothing with carefully selected materials and techniques.

To introduce indigo products to more people, they opened the direct-operated shop Konoito tsumugu.

Instead of mass production, each item is made with care, so the products available in the store vary by season.

Inside the store, you will find attractive products that you can only encounter at that time.

To achieve this exquisite color, they first create it with a dark thread and then proceed to remove the color.

You can start from making the indigo dye and experience the entire process until the fabric is dyed.

This was started with the desire to make indigo dyeing more accessible.

The dyeing result varies with temperature, so each piece will have a unique pattern.

The dyed fabric can also be stylishly used as a furoshiki (wrapping cloth).

Many people experience this as a memory of Kurashiki.
