At Okayama Prefectural Kurashiki Technical High School in Oimatsu-cho, Kurashiki City, “Kurako Luminarie” has been held since fiscal 2020, with hopes for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic and to encourage everyone working hard today.
The pandemic seems to have subsided, but we heard the event would be held again this fiscal year (2023), so we went to the lighting ceremony held on November 24, 2023.

What is “Kurako Luminarie”?
The “2023 Kurako Luminarie” is being held in the garden by the main gate of Kurashiki Technical High School from November 24 to December 24, 2023.
Since it is powered by natural light, there is no set time for the lights to come on; they reportedly switch on automatically after sunset.
The venue
We went to the lighting ceremony held on Friday, November 24, 2023.
There were events including a mini concert by the brass band and a display of works by the calligraphy club, and finally the illuminations were switched on.
Illuminations
The illuminations are decorative lights made by students in Kurashiki Technical High School’s Electronic and Mechanical Engineering Department as part of their project research.
From the Writer
The illuminations are small in scale, so they may not compare with commercial displays.
However, these illuminations were created by high school students for local residents, and anyone can enjoy them casually.
