On March 14, 2026 (Saturday), the community exchange event "Mizushima Terrace Meeting" will be held, organized and prepared mainly by the students of Okayama Prefectural Kurashiki Kojoike High School.

This exchange event takes advantage of the characteristics of Mizushima, where many foreign nationals live and work, allowing participants to experience the charm of a multicultural community.

This year, with the themes of "Remaking School Uniforms" and "Cultural Exchange," high school students will sell remade products they created, along with programs to enjoy multicultural exchange.

What is the Mizushima Terrace Meeting

The Mizushima Terrace Meeting is a community exchange event that started to help restore some vitality to the Mizushima area. It is organized by a consortium for experiential environmental learning in Mizushima, with volunteer students from Okayama Prefectural Kurashiki Kojoike High School taking the lead.

Students gather each year around a theme of interest, planning and preparing for about a year to create a space for interaction with the local community.

The most recent themes were "Mizushima x Showa" in March 2024 and "Cultural Exchange" in March 2025. This year's theme is similar to that of 2025, but it is said to be even more powerful.

We asked students from Okayama Prefectural Kurashiki Kojoike High School, who planned and prepared for the Mizushima Terrace Meeting, about the highlights of this event.

This time, the theme is Cultural Exchange, and we will be serving authentic Filipino cuisine.

We will be selling Filipino chicken porridge "Arroz Caldo" and fried banana snacks "Pinaypay", made by people from the Philippines. I think these are dishes that are rarely eaten in Japan, so I hope everyone will try them.

And after the meal, we hope you will enjoy coffee brewed by us high school students.
Recently, we learned how to brew coffee from the owner of Coffee Roast Okabe, which has a shop in Mizushima.

I feel a bit nervous about serving customers, but I will brew delicious coffee.
On the day of the event, we will have various types of coffee from around the world, including Colombia, Brazil, and Indonesia.

Another highlight of the Terrace Meeting is the sale of "Remade School Uniform Products" created by high school students.

Using leftover fabric from the sewing process of uniforms provided by KANKO GAKUSEIFUKU CO., LTD., high school students will sell remade products.

The uniforms that we high school students usually wear.
This is a sustainable initiative that takes advantage of leftover fabric that would normally be discarded during the sewing process.

We all worked together using sewing machines to create various small items, so if you find something you like, please consider purchasing it.
