It would be nice to have a place where you can easily stop by while sightseeing or shopping.
"Tenryo Kurashiki Coffee" is a specialty coffee bean shop located about a 5-minute walk from the Bikan Historical Area.
Despite being close to tourist attractions, it is known for offering freshly roasted authentic coffee at reasonable prices.
The drip coffee with cute wrapping is perfect as a stylish souvenir from Kurashiki.
Let me introduce Tenryo Kurashiki Coffee, a place that makes you want to stop by, lured by the aroma of coffee.
The retro coffee bean specialty shop "Tenryo Kurashiki Coffee" in Kurashiki Center Street

Walking from JR Kurashiki Station towards the Bikan Historical Area, you will see Tenryo Kurashiki Coffee after passing Curry House Kobe-ya.
The shop is right next to the sign for "Center Street."
On either side are a shoe store and a kimono shop. It's a long, narrow building, so don't miss it.

From the front, it feels like a stylish foreign goods store. The brick construction gives it a retro atmosphere.
You can already smell the fragrant aroma of coffee around here…!
Looking up from below, it’s quite a large building.
Let’s go inside right away.

A coffee bean specialty shop that focuses on freshness, with 22 types of beans available

Upon entering the shop, the first thing that catches your eye is a large brown machine.
This is a machine for roasting coffee, and its presence is quite impressive!

It has quite an impressive presence.
Every time an order for roasting comes in, it works with a loud rumbling sound.

Tenryo Kurashiki Coffee is committed to roasting your preferred coffee beans on the spot.
Did you know that the period during which freshly roasted coffee can be enjoyed is surprisingly short: one month for whole beans and two weeks for ground coffee?
The time it takes to roast each type of coffee bean is about 15 minutes.
To ensure that fresh beans are always available, the large roasting machine is hard at work.

I was shown freshly roasted, warm coffee beans.
The aroma is toasty and subtly sweet!
I was overwhelmed by the urge to just munch on them right then and there.

There are actually 22 types of coffee beans available at all times.
It’s quite rare to find a shop that offers 22 types, ranging from unusual ones that are hard to find in Japan to those favored by connoisseurs.

Each type of coffee bean is displayed with a pop that captures its characteristics, making it easy to understand the aroma and flavor at a glance.
Above all, you can feel the staff's love for coffee through the carefully crafted pops!
If you’re not very knowledgeable about coffee, be sure to ask the staff for advice.
▼ Here is the price list for the coffee beans.

From reasonably priced options to the 4,000 yen Hawaiian Kona, there are various types of coffee.
For those who can't make it to Kurashiki, there is also a mail order site.
There are "bean fans" who are enamored with fresh coffee beans all over the country. Amazing!
Takeout menu

Tenryo Kurashiki Coffee offers not only takeout of coffee beans but also drinks for takeout.
Previously, there was an eat-in space, but as of 2021, it is takeout only.
Eating and drinking inside the shop is not allowed.
I asked the staff for their recommended coffee. Great for souvenirs too!

Since I came to a specialty shop, I asked the staff for their top recommendations.
I will introduce three types, including one for coffee beginners and the most popular one at Tenryo Kurashiki Coffee.
Ethiopia Bereka G1
The first recommended coffee bean by the staff is "Ethiopia Bereka G1."
Ethiopia Bereka is characterized by its floral aroma, reminiscent of tea.
"Coffee, but like tea…!?"
As a coffee novice, I can't quite imagine it, but it makes me want to try it.
Brazil Yoshimatsu
The second recommended coffee bean is "Brazil Yoshimatsu."
As the name suggests, it comes from a coffee farm run by someone from Japan, and it is a very rare coffee bean with limited availability in Japan.
It has a rich body and is characterized by a deep flavor that connoisseurs appreciate.
Tenryo Kurashiki Blend
And the most popular one, "Tenryo Kurashiki Blend," is characterized by its acidity and floral aroma.
As it bears the shop's name, it is a product filled with the staff's dedication that I would recommend to coffee lovers.
"Brazil Chocolat Baby" is recommended for beginners
Recommended for beginners is "Brazil Chocolat Baby."
It's very easy to drink and refreshing! Perfect for coffee beginners or as a souvenir.
Individual drip packs are perfect for trying out

Buying roasted beans all at once can be daunting… For those people, individual drip packs are recommended.
At 160 yen each (including tax), you can easily enjoy authentic coffee.

The stylish design featuring masking tape is very Kurashiki-like!
Lightweight and long-lasting, they make great souvenirs from the Bikan Historical Area.
▼ The shop also has a wide variety of coffee gift sets available.

Masking tape and wrapping are all decorated by the staff's handwork.
▼Handmade goods sold in the store.

Cute goods that you want to give as a present with coffee are lined up.
▼Since I was there, I purchased three types of drip coffee and the staff's recommended Tenryo Kurashiki blend.

The most popular is the Tenryo Kurashiki Blend.
A flavor with a strong bitterness and a distinct taste. The acidity is also effective, making the strength of the coffee impressive.

The Ethiopia Bereka surprised me with its rich aroma. It has a light aftertaste, making it very easy to drink and my favorite.
Finally, the Brazil Yoshimatsu.
It has a slightly smoky aroma and a hint of bitterness. It has a rustic and robust flavor, but strangely, it is a coffee that you can drink smoothly.
When I compared them, I was surprised that the aromas and flavors were completely different. The fact that you can easily enjoy it with drip coffee is also the charm of coffee.

Before entering, I was a bit nervous about what kind of shop it would be, but I was completely captivated by the coffee-loving atmosphere and the deliciousness of the coffee.
The prices are reasonable, so it’s a place I want to visit regularly as a daily retreat.
Of course, it’s also great for sightseeing in the Bikan Historical Area. Please consider it for souvenirs as well.
