To wrap up the summer, I visited "2022 Summer Heartland Kurashiki."

At "Heartland Kurashiki," various buildings in the Bikan Historical Area are illuminated, allowing you to enjoy a different side of the Bikan Historical Area.

There were many attractions, including projection mapping unique to Kurashiki and the Kurashiki light "Kiriko Akari."

"2022 Summer Heartland Kurashiki" was held in the Bikan Historical Area from August 19 to August 28, 2022.

It was organized by the Heartland Kurashiki Executive Committee. The details are as follows.

The Fantastical Bikan Historical Area Illuminated

Upon arriving at the Bikan Historical Area, the first thing that caught my eye was the illuminated Kurashiki River.

The illumination emphasized the green of the willows, creating a very fantastical atmosphere.

▼As I passed through the gate, I was surrounded by 400 traditional Japanese lanterns.

I was healed by the warm light unique to the lanterns.

▼Next, I visited Kurashikikan.

In the projection mapping, you can see the four seasons that reflect the essence of Okayama.

The blue illumination and denim decorations allowed me to feel the famous jeans of Kurashiki.

The "Kiriko Akari" inside Kurashiki City Kurashiki Monogatari-kan leads to a positive feeling

Inside Kurashiki City Kurashiki Monogatari-kan, many "Kiriko Akari" are displayed.

"Kiriko Akari" was created when Hiroko Suyama thought, "Can we decorate Kurashiki Kiriko lanterns as night lights?"

From the handmade designs of "Kiriko Akari," such as lotus flowers, rickshaws, and wisteria, you can feel the essence of Kurashiki.

As the name "Kiriko Akari" suggests (light of hope and healing), I felt that it is a light that guides you to a positive feeling with its warm glow.

Conclusion

"Heartland Kurashiki" has been held every year around the spring Golden Week, but it was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the spread of COVID-19.

However, in 2022, it was decided to hold the event for the first time in three years, and after postponing from the originally scheduled Golden Week, it was held for the first time in August and only at night.

In the usual "Heartland Kurashiki," there were many daytime events such as riverboat parades and music parades, but in 2022, you can enjoy the night Bikan Historical Area.

This different "Heartland Kurashiki" may only happen this time.
