What is the "Kurashiki Shigoto Expo"?
The Kurashiki Shigoto Expo is a job hunting event hosted by Kurashiki City that will be held on March 7, 2026 (Saturday).
It is aimed at high school students and above who are interested in jobs in Kurashiki City, and you can learn about the various jobs of Kurashiki City employees.
The venue is the first floor of the newly established Disaster Management Center within the Kurashiki City Office. The following four booths will be prepared.
- Explanatory booths introducing the work of each department (administrative positions, technical positions, qualified positions, firefighting positions)
- Exhibition booth for work attire and tools
- "KuraCafe" where you can casually interact with employees
- Event booth for experiencing mock interviews and mock group discussions
When thinking of city jobs, you might generally imagine administrative positions.
However, in addition to that, there are technical positions such as civil engineering, architecture, electrical, mechanical, and chemical, qualified positions such as nutritionists, public health nurses, and childcare educators, and firefighting positions working at the fire department, where a wide range of employees are active.
As it is a valuable event where you can receive direct explanations from current employees, there were over 80 applications for the 2025 event.
Additionally, being able to casually consult with senior employees and prepare for interviews and group discussions is also an attraction of the Kurashiki Shigoto Expo.
Since prior registration is required, those who wish to participate should apply through the Kurashiki City Electronic Application Service. The deadline is February 25, 2026 (Wednesday).
The Kurashiki Shigoto Expo was born from the voices of young employees working in Kurashiki City. I spoke with Tsuda Rikiya from the Kurashiki City Human Resources Division Training Institute about how it was planned.

Can you tell us about the background of the planning of the Kurashiki Shigoto Expo?

Kurashiki City has a Recruitment PR Team that conducts public relations activities related to recruitment. This team is composed of young employees in their 20s and 30s.
When reflecting on their own job hunting experiences within the Recruitment PR Team, various thoughts emerged, such as "I wanted to know more about the specific job descriptions of each department," "I wanted a place where I could casually consult with senior employees," and "I wanted to prepare for interviews and group discussions." The Kurashiki Shigoto Expo was planned by picking up on these voices.
The first event held in 2025 saw over 80 applications and was very lively.
Were there any particularly popular booths at the first event?

The booth for mock interviews and mock group discussions attracted particularly many people.
I think that interviews and group discussions can be a source of anxiety for job seekers, as they may not have had opportunities to practice or may not know how to prepare.
This year (2026), we plan to increase the time for discussions and feedback compared to the previous event. By actually experiencing it, I think participants will realize the difficulty of conveying their opinions concisely and the tips for time management.
By preparing for these, I believe some anxiety can be alleviated, so please feel free to take advantage of it.
The mock interviews and mock discussions conducted at the Kurashiki Shigoto Expo are strictly practice sessions. The themes and questions addressed are just examples. They will not affect the actual recruitment exams.

I think the great appeal is that you can learn about the diverse jobs of the city in just half a day.
Kurashiki City has many departments, and the ability to engage in a wide range of tasks is a unique advantage of municipalities, so I would like to convey that appeal as well.
Moreover, there are not many opportunities to have in-depth conversations with city employees during job hunting. Knowing the work makes it easier to imagine yourself working there, so I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.

I saw the special recruitment site for Kurashiki City. They are engaging in interesting public relations activities such as information dissemination using Instagram live streaming and KuraCafe. Are these also ideas from young employees?

Yes, young employees are actively sharing their opinions.
In particular, young employees have fresh ideas that are not bound by past precedents at the city office, so there is a general atmosphere in which all departments seek the opinions of young employees.
Some may have a rigid image of municipalities, but I think it is an environment where even young employees can easily express their opinions.
What kind of personnel is Kurashiki City looking for?

While referring to the "personnel sought and ideal employee image" listed on the city's recruitment site, there is one thing I convey to students during recruitment information sessions.
That is, "What kind of employees would you like to be treated by when you go to the city office as a citizen?" I believe that employees who provide thorough explanations and are empathetic to citizens, making it easy for them to consult, are the kind of personnel that the city is looking for.
