Interview with Yuuko Kato, Representative of Rental Space Ripple
We spoke with Yuuko Kato, who is engaged in various activities centered around rental space in Soja City.
Can you tell us about the background of opening Rental Space Ripple?

In my previous workplace, I spent my days facing individuals struggling with mental health issues and injuries. During that time, I began to think about wanting to create a place where people could feel like they could try again tomorrow, a place to "learn joyfully" and "play seriously."
Since my father was self-employed, I had always wanted to start my own business. As a result of wanting to be of help while connecting with the people in front of me, I opened Rental Space Ripple in May 2018.
Can you tell us the origin of the store's name?
Kato
Ripple means "ripples" in Japanese.
I hope that the connections and communications born here will spread like ripples.
I aim to create a place where people can heal themselves, different from their workplace or home.
Did you face any difficulties when starting your business?
Kato
When I opened in 2018, there were few examples of rental spaces in Okayama Prefecture, and there was hardly any information to reference. My pricing was often compared to that of inexpensive facilities like community centers, and I faced opposition from those around me who said, "It's difficult because there are no precedents."
Even so, I was encouraged by senior entrepreneurs I met at that time, and I was able to continue my challenge.

I would be happy if people could find the right way to use it for them from the many options available. It's fine to gather with friends to refresh, or I think it's good to use mugwort steam to adjust the body.
I hope this place can become "another home" outside of family and work.

What I value most is that those who come here can think, "I can try again tomorrow."
When customers leave, I silently say "take care" in my heart.
I want to be a place where customers can always return.
Can you tell us about your future plans?
Kato
Since various people are using the space, I am planning to hold cross-industry exchange meetings where users can connect with each other.
I also aim to develop gifts that can reach those who cannot meet directly in the space.
I want to deliver them as rewards that accompany the "efforts of important people," such as for postpartum mothers or as gifts for condolences or hospital visits,
and I want to be a choice for self-gifting as well.
Furthermore, to make it easy for people to incorporate health into their daily lives, I am considering turning HAKKO STAND, where you can enjoy kombucha, into a physical store, and providing courses that allow for a deep connection with the body in combination with mugwort steam.
Currently, you can enjoy it anytime at the rental space.
I want to be a place where those who come can become energized both mentally and physically.
