The "Sunday Morning Market in the Post Town of Yakage" is a morning market featuring various goods, sweets, and food trucks held at the Yakage Town House Exchange Center on the second Sunday of every month.
From this time (April 14, 2024), the Yakage Nishimachi Marche will also be held simultaneously.
The opening hours are from 8:00 AM to noon at the Yakage Town House Exchange Center and from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Yakage Nishimachi Event Square.
From April to October, it will start one hour earlier at 8:00 AM.
Moving from the Yakage Town House Exchange Center to the Yakage Nishimachi Event Square
I arrived at the temporary parking lot at the former Marunaka site around 8:15 AM and walked to the Yakage Town House Exchange Center, which is about a minute away.
From all around the venue, there are delicious smells of curry and grilled chicken. In the dining area of the venue, many people were enjoying eating curry and soba.
First, I walked around the venue and purchased baked goods and bread.
After that, I moved to the Yakage Nishimachi Event Square, which takes about five minutes to walk from the Yakage Town House Exchange Center.
Feeling thirsty, I purchased a white peach amazake.
The refreshing taste of the white peach blended well with the bitterness of the amazake.
After 9:00 AM, more people started to gather at the Nishimachi Event Square.
When shopping at the Yakage Nishimachi Marche, you receive a ticket for a lottery draw.
When I drew the lottery, I won a Yakappi bread.
It seems that Yakappi bread is given to 100 lucky winners in the lottery.
Nail Fashion and Care
At the Yakage Town House Exchange Center, there was a booth from the local nail salon "akko nail".
It seems that many people have nail concerns such as "I quickly get split nails" or "My nails break easily," and I, too, have started to struggle with split nails and hangnails as I age, so I decided to consult with them.
As a result of the consultation, I purchased nail oil that I had wanted for dry nail care.
The shop owner said, "This is my second time participating, and I am happy to see many people coming from far away, such as Fukuyama, after seeing the flyer."
Color Salt Workshop
I visited a booth that was selling color salt and holding a workshop.
Color salt is said to be salt that has been dyed.
It's also nice to express feelings that are usually hard to convey with color salt.
The workshop was also popular.
Since color salt cannot be replaced once added, participants carefully add the color salt into the bottle while imagining the finished product.
After finishing adding the color salt, decorations are fixed in place with water glue.
Conclusion
A few years ago, I visited the Sunday morning market in the post town of Yakage several times. I remember that local artists and volunteers were selling small items and light snacks at that time.
This time, after several years, I was surprised by the number of booths and the many vendors from outside the town.
The next event will be held on May 12 (Sunday) from 8 AM.
