I visited the Orange House Hokkori located in Otani, Kankō-cho, Asakuchi City.
The area I visited, Kankō-cho in Asakuchi City, is the birthplace of the Kankō religion.
Among them, the Otani district is known as a temple town where the headquarters of the Kankō religion is located, recognized not only locally but also nationwide.
Some may recall it as the filming location for the movie "Tombi" (released in 2022).
Old shop buildings and signs remain, making it feel as if you have time-traveled back to the Showa era, with a quiet and unique atmosphere.
Despite being my first visit, I felt a strange sense of nostalgia as soon as I stepped in.
Overview of Orange House Hokkori
Orange House Hokkori is about a 3-minute walk from the parking lot in front of Kankō Library.
The orange exterior, shining amidst the nostalgic townscape, serves as a landmark, making it easy to find.

The owners of Orange House Hokkori are a couple, Shinji and Keiko, who live in Asakuchi City.
It opened in November 2021.
They operate the café only on Sundays alongside their main jobs.
Orange House Hokkori is not just a café aimed at attracting customers.
The café's concept is “A place where everyone can gather and connect freely.”
I was able to hear more about why they chose this concept, the background of its establishment, and their efforts in detail during the later interview.
First, let me briefly introduce the basic information about the café and the events that were taking place on the day of the interview.

As mentioned earlier, “It is not just a café aimed at attracting customers,” but that does not mean they do not have a commitment to the menu.
More than a year has passed since the opening in 2021, and it seems that the menu lineup has also increased.
Omelette rice with creamy eggs
They also have taco rice for lunch, but I chose the omelette rice, which has been on the menu since the opening.
There is also a regular size (tax included 1,000 yen), but the small size was sufficient for me.
The eggs are incredibly creamy and soft, providing a gentle eating experience.
The eggs used in the omelette rice are from "Takata no Tamago" (Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture), produced with a focus on quality.
The coffee I ordered separately from the lunch set came with a cookie.
A weekly changing morning set (tax 500 yen) is served from 8 AM.
There may also be seasonal menu items that appear from time to time.

Two events held on the day of the interview
Orange House Hokkori hosts various events.
On the day of my visit, two events were held.
The first was a ukulele performance by Yatsuyuki.
This was her second live performance at Orange House Hokkori.
Yatsuyuki is involved in activities using music and works in education.
It seems she was previously a teacher to the owner Shinji's eldest son, which led to her performing a live show.
The second event was a community exchange meeting organized by the Otani West District Town Development Guidelines Revitalization Committee.
The Otani district of Kankō-cho was a major filming location for the movie "Tombi."
People who knew the town's appearance during the filming and those who appeared as extras gathered.
The event was held at Orange House Hokkori as a place for connections to discuss various topics related to the film.
On the day of the interview, many local people came and went due to the events.
It was truly a reflection of the café's concept of “A place where everyone can gather and connect freely,” showing how well it fits into the community.
After the events settled down, I had a detailed conversation with Shinji and Keiko about the background of establishing Orange House Hokkori.
