Café Pomelo - A shared café run by a former fruit café manager where you can enjoy seasonal fruits.

cafePomelo

Do you know cafe Pomelo, which is open only a few days a week?

This cafe operates in the stylishly designed "Kanon Café," which has a Western-style exterior. The sweets made with seasonal fruits are all vibrant, and as someone who enjoys visiting cafes, this is a place I find intriguing.

I would like to recommend cafe Pomelo.

cafe Pomelo (hereinafter referred to as "Pomelo") is a cafe operating in "Kanon Café," located in Nishinakada, Kurashiki City.

Opened in January 2025, it operates about two days a week.

Featuring seasonal fruits and adorable animal-themed sweets, it seems many visitors come specifically for the sweet treats.

There are 10 parking spaces in front of the shop, and its location facing a main road makes it easy to access by car. The clear visibility of the parking lot is also a nice point.

Inside the cafe

Inside the cafe

As soon as you enter the cafe, a space resembling a Western-style living room unfolds before you.

The decorative items placed here and there are stylish. The interior is the same as that of the Kanon Café, where it operates, and there are 5 counter seats and 3 table sets inside.

When I visited on a Sunday evening, there were groups of women with children and two university students enjoying their time.

On weekday evenings, it seems that people coming home from work also stop by.

It is a perfect space for chatting with friends or relaxing alone.

A rich menu of drinks and sweets

Pomelo's sweets are all handmade by the owner, Kato Ayame.

Due to limited quantities, it is recommended to reserve any menu items of interest via direct message on Instagram. Each menu item, which is also visually appealing, is vibrant and colorful.

I will introduce the menu items that particularly caught my attention.

Early Summer Fruit Parfait

The "Early Summer Fruit Parfait" is a luxurious parfait topped with plenty of fruit. The sweetness of the cream and the refreshing taste of the fruit are in perfect balance, and the chilled melon felt just right on a hot day (the interview was conducted in July).

This is a recommended item for days when you want to indulge in something sweet!

Cherry Mini Cheesecake and Mini Tart

This is a plate dessert featuring a cheesecake and mini tart.
The cheesecake has a melt-in-your-mouth texture, and taking a bite made me feel happy.

What catches the eye is the bear cookie served alongside the cherries. This is also handmade one by one by Kato.

Pomelo frequently features animal-themed menu items, which is one of Kato's creative ideas.

In fact, before opening, she had considered simpler sweets.
However, after seeing the café's interior, she thought about how to match the atmosphere, which led to the creation of the animal-themed menu.

Since the menu fits perfectly with the shop's interior, it is no surprise that it has received a great response from customers.

Fluffy Coffee

When it comes to cafés, drinks are also essential.
What I ordered was Fluffy Coffee.

This sweet iced coffee is topped with fluffy whipped cream and almond sauce.

In addition to coffee, there are roasted green tea lattes and fresh juices, so even those who are not fond of coffee can enjoy a variety of menu items.

Due to the one-drink policy, a drink order is required when ordering cake.

Each menu item features eye-catching creativity, with only gorgeous desserts available.

Both the desserts and drinks are wonderful at Pomelo.
In fact, it seems that most of the operations, from menu planning to preparation and running the shop, are handled by the owner, Kato.

What kind of person could that be?

I asked about the journey to opening the café and what it has been like managing it as a sublet.

I moved from Aichi Prefecture to Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, due to employment. I work at a chemical manufacturer on weekdays.

I enjoy visiting cafes and bookstores, and I go out to various places on my days off.
Through interviews, I want to learn about the charm of shops and the thoughts of the people behind them, and share that information.
