Having delicious snacks and drinks makes you feel relaxed, doesn't it?
Located in Soja City, Akari-sha is a café that has fully renovated a traditional house. The handmade "snacks" and drinks by the owner, along with the playful interior, gently heal the visitors.
Introducing Akari-sha, where you can enjoy comforting snacks and drinks in a traditional house.
About Akari-sha

Akari-sha, located near the tourist spot Gokei in Soja City, is a traditional house café that opened on December 1, 2024.

Inside Akari-sha
The building is said to be a historic residence that is approximately 120 years old.
The interior has been fully renovated by the owner over about two and a half years. Except for specialized areas like electricity and plumbing, most of the interior was remodeled by the owner and their family.
The floor, which was previously covered with tatami mats, has been changed to wooden flooring with table seating for the comfort of elderly guests.

In the warm space, old tools, black telephones, and beloved books are displayed, allowing you to spend a relaxing time with pleasant background music.

Menu of Akari-sha
At Akari-sha, the owner refers to handmade cakes and puddings as "snacks."
They value "a taste that is not flashy but is enjoyable like something made by family."
Among them, the plate that allows you to enjoy several types of cakes in small portions is particularly popular.
The menu changes every 1 to 2 months and is loved by many customers.
For drinks, coffee made from beans from Sunny Day Coffee in Takebe-cho, Okayama City, is popular.
On the day of the interview, I enjoyed a luxurious three-type cheese plate and coffee.

When the plate arrives, the colorful appearance of the three cakes and coffee jelly instantly lifts your spirits.
The contents during the interview were three types: Basque cheesecake, blueberry rare cheese, and matcha and red bean 'An Basque'.
The Basque cheesecake has a creamy texture that is impressive.
The blueberry rare cheese has a pleasant sweet and sour taste, and the An Basque has a perfect balance of sweetness from the red bean paste and a crispy base underneath.

The coffee jelly is made from coffee brewed in the shop.
It has a strong bitterness that serves as an accent between the cakes.

You can enjoy several types of snacks at once, each with a good volume, making it a very satisfying plate.
Among the individual menu items, the "Basque cheesecake" is particularly popular.
The coffee is an original blend made exclusively for the shop by Sunny Day Coffee. The beans are ground after an order is received and brewed carefully.
It has a strong bitterness that pairs perfectly with the snacks.

There are also many interesting menu items such as homemade lemonade, ginger ale, and cream sodas named after "Gokei" and "Okayama."
They also sell baked goods like chiffon cakes, logo cookies, and galettes, which are available for takeout.

They can also prepare a set of baked goods, making it perfect for souvenirs.
Reservations are required for the set of baked goods.
I interviewed the owner of Akari-sha about the background and thoughts behind opening the café.
