There are all kinds of cafes out there.
From relaxing cafes in traditional houses to cafes serving trendy sweets.
If you enjoy visiting cafes, you probably go to places in all sorts of genres.
But have you ever been to a cafe where you can easily check your physical condition using measuring equipment?
There’s a unique place like that in Kurashiki.
We visited “All Cafe × Tanita Cafe Achi Terrace Kurashiki,” a cafe where you can enjoy delicious food while checking in with your body.
The information presented here is current as of when this article was published in November 2023. Please note that it may differ from current information.
What the cafe, lab, and pharmacy are like
All Cafe × Tanita Cafe Achi Terrace Kurashiki (hereafter, All Cafe) is located in Achi Terrace Kurashiki, a mixed-use complex about a five-minute walk from JR Kurashiki Station.
Here’s what the cafe, lab, and pharmacy, which are all connected, are like.
Cafe
All Cafe is a glass-fronted establishment on the first floor of the South Building at Achi Terrace Kurashiki.

There’s a terrace, so dining outdoors is also recommended during pleasant weather.
Dogs are welcome on the terrace, apparently.

Natural light streams into the interior, creating a relaxing atmosphere.
The spacious cafe has counter seats, tables, and sofas.
The seating is thoughtfully arranged, making it easy to visit alone or in a group.

You can also use a private room for a fee (500 yen per person, tax included).
It looks like a nice place to relax.

Lab
A distinctive feature of the establishment is the lab, “OWL LAB,” located next to the cafe.
OWL LAB has lots of equipment for measuring your physical condition.
You can use the measuring equipment if you dine at All Cafe or use All Pharmacy.

At the back of OWL LAB is the pharmacy, “All Pharmacy.”
The cafe, lab, and pharmacy are connected internally, so the building has a long, narrow layout.

Cafe operations
Did you notice that “All” is part of the names of the cafe, lab, and pharmacy, and wonder if they’re part of the same group?
That’s right—they’re operated by a company called My Life Co., Ltd.
Some of you may be wondering about “Tanita Cafe” in the cafe’s name.
Tanita Cafe is a cafe brand operated by Tanita Shokudo Co., Ltd.

All Cafe × Tanita Cafe is a collaboration between All Cafe and Tanita Cafe.
We tried the cafe menu
The cafe offers three types of menu: All Cafe originals, Tanita Cafe originals, and collaboration items.
| All Cafe original menu | Pasta and pizza |
| Tanita Cafe original menu | SALADA BOWL LUNCH (salad bowl lunch) |
| All Cafe and Tanita Cafe collaboration menu | ONE PLATE LUNCH |
▼Lunch menu

All Cafe’s menu changes with the seasons.
Let me tell you about the All Cafe and collaboration dishes I tried.
All Cafe menu
I was having trouble deciding because there were so many options, but a staff member recommended the grilled chicken and pumpkin cream pasta (1,700 yen, tax included), so I chose that.
The pumpkin cream pasta is no longer available.
First, four appetizers and bread were brought out.

Under the amberjack carpaccio was marinated red cabbage.
The fish was firm and springy, with a satisfying bite.

The roast beef was topped with a dressing flavored with the sweetness of onions.
It also came with curry-flavored cucumber.
Each appetizer has a different flavor, making them enjoyable, and it’s great that you also get a good serving of vegetables.

The main pasta dish arrived.
The noodles are homemade fresh pasta made with roasted whole-wheat flour with germ, and come in two types: tagliolini (medium-thin noodles) and fettuccine (flat noodles).
The pasta we ordered was made with fettuccine.

It came with plenty of generously sized grilled chicken and lotus root with a satisfyingly fluffy texture.
The chicken was lightly seasoned so as not to overpower the sauce.
The sauce had a subtle pumpkin flavor, was not too sweet, and had a good kick of garlic.

The creamy sauce, made with plenty of cheese, clings beautifully to the flat noodles.
Since it’s fresh pasta, it’s wonderfully chewy.
Both the noodles and sauce were delicious, making this a thoroughly satisfying dish.

After the meal, we had dessert and a drink.
These are also included in the lunch menu.
The mini eclair had a crisp pastry shell filled with whipped cream and custard.
It was served with mango and raspberry sauces, making for a colorful presentation.

All Cafe and Tanita Cafe Collaboration Menu
I’ll also introduce the “Hamburg Steak One-Plate Meal,” which I had on another day.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare recommends consuming at least 350 grams of vegetables a day as a target for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
This hamburg steak one-plate meal provides half that amount, or 175 grams, so it’s recommended for anyone concerned about not getting enough vegetables.

The hamburg steak was nicely seared on the outside and very fluffy inside.
With a juicy hamburg steak and multigrain rice, it’s filling.
You can enjoy a good serving of vegetables that are often lacking in our diets, and it feels like simply eating this meal could make you healthier.

Like the All Cafe menu, the one-plate meal also comes with dessert and a drink after your meal.
The drink options include items from both the All Cafe and Tanita Cafe menus.
Since I was there, I chose Tanita Coffee (HOT).

It apparently contains twice as much chlorogenic acid, a type of polyphenol, as regular coffee, and had a light, smooth taste with a hint of acidity.
Check Your Physical Condition at OWL LAB
After eating, I checked my physical condition at OWL LAB.
Bring your cafe receipt to receive two of the free measurements.
| Free Measurement Device | What It Measures |
|---|---|
| Body composition analyzer (for ages 18 and up) | Check your physical condition, including weight, body fat percentage, muscle mass, and basal metabolic rate |
| Vascular age measurement (for ages 18 and up) | Assess vascular aging based on vascular age and vascular score |
| AGEs measurement (for ages 16 and up) | Rates the level of accumulated AGEs, aging substances produced in the body, on a five-point scale. You can also see your ranking among people of the same age |
| Bone health measurement | Rates the health of the radius in your wrist, which is prone to breaking if you fall, on a five-point scale |
| Brain age tester | Measures your brain age |
Of these, I tried the vascular age measurement and brain age tester.
Vascular Age Measurement
Measuring your vascular age is easy.
Just insert your left index finger and wait 18 seconds.
A score indicates whether your blood vessels are elastic and whether their condition is appropriate for your age.
Apparently, stiffening of the blood vessels can increase the risk of life-threatening illnesses such as heart attacks.

Your vascular age is also displayed, so you can see whether your blood vessels are young or aging.
I won’t share the results sheet, but my result was four years younger than my actual age.
Brain Age Tester
Tap the numbers quickly to measure your brain age based on your reaction speed.
There are two tests.
Tap the numbers in order, starting with the smallest: 1, 2, 3…
In the first test, the numbers stayed in place when tapped, but in the second, they moved to random positions with each tap.

It also seems to test your stamina and concentration, as well as whether your reaction speed slows down.
I won’t share this results sheet either, but I was happy to be judged 10 years younger than my actual age.
Veggie Check
There are also several paid measurements, and I tried one of them, Veggie Check (550 yen, tax included).
Simply place your palm on the device to measure your vegetable intake level.
Apparently, the result is based on your eating habits over the past month.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s “Health Japan 21” recommends eating 350 grams of vegetables a day.
The writer’s result was “6.4.”
Apparently, a score of “7.0” or higher means you’re getting 350 grams, so I fell just short of the target.
It gave me a reason to rethink my eating habits.
