What kind of menu comes to mind when you hear "curry shop"?
There are various types, such as spice-rich curry and nostalgic curry.
The menu that comes to mind is probably all curry.
I think there are few people who would think of "cake" or "pasta".
Not only curry, but also sweets, coffee, and pasta are emphasized at the curry shop "Curry and Coffee Shop 774".
Since its opening as a rental business, "Curry and Coffee Shop 774" has been very popular.
About 774
Curry and Coffee Shop 774 (hereafter, 774) is a renovated old house located across from Kurashiki Ivy Square on Okayama Prefectural Route 22.
Previously, 774 operated as a rental business in a Japanese restaurant located within the Bikan Historical Area.
Since it borrowed the time when the Japanese restaurant was closed, the business days were irregular, but it remained popular, and its fan base steadily grew.
Then in July 2021, it finally moved from a rental business to a physical store.
Inside the shop, there are two tables for four people and two tables for two people.

The two-person seats facing the street have large windows.
▼In front, you can see the brick wall of Kurashiki Ivy Square.

774's Lunch Menu
Curry
The lunch menu at 774 features curry that has continued since its rental business days.
The menu changes weekly, featuring two types of "Aigake Curry" and a three-type combination called "Sanshu Moriasu".
| Lunch Curry Menu | Type of Curry | Price (including tax) |
|---|---|---|
| Aigake Curry | Chicken Curry, Lentil Curry | 1,100 yen |
| Sanshu Moriasu | Tomato Chicken Curry, Ginger Pork Keema, Lentil and Coconut Vegetable Curry | 1,300 yen |
Since the two-type and three-type combinations have different types of curry, it can be a tough choice, but I opted for the three-type combination, Sanshu Moriasu.
Side dishes are served between the curries.

On one plate, there are six handmade side dishes!
They add color to the curry plate, which tends to be brown.
▼Pickled purple cabbage. Perfect for refreshing the palate.

The white sesame dressing with shungiku (edible chrysanthemum) that comes on the curry plate is unexpectedly delightful.
It gives a comforting feeling, as if you have come to a traditional Japanese set meal restaurant.
Before eating, I thought, "Will this go well with curry?" but it turned out to be surprisingly compatible.

Now, let's eat the curry.
The curry with almost no moisture is the ginger pork keema.
It resembles a spiced, unformed hamburger.
It was meaty and felt like it would boost my energy.

The large piece of chicken in the tomato chicken curry is quite substantial.
It's a classic curry with a flavor that would appeal to everyone.
The chicken was simmered until it was tender.

The third curry is the lentil and coconut vegetable curry.
Thanks to the coconut, it was sweeter compared to the other curries.
The curry is delicious on its own, but mixing it with the other sauces to create a flavor that suits you is also recommended.

Sweets
Although it is a curry shop, sweets cannot be overlooked.
They put a lot of effort into their sweets.
The cake menu changes with the seasons, but "Curry Shop's Firm Pudding" and "Pudding à la Mode" are available year-round.
Parfaits may also be offered.
| Sweets Menu | Price (including tax) |
|---|---|
| Baked Cheese with Apple and Persimmon Raisins | 500 yen |
| Baked Cheese with Dried Persimmon and Whiskey | 500 yen |
| Curry Shop's Firm Pudding | 400 yen |
| Pudding à la Mode | 800 yen |
The Pudding à la Mode comes with firm pudding and plenty of seasonal fruits.
Since there are cakes as well, for those who want to eat both pudding and cake, Pudding à la Mode is recommended.

The firm pudding had a consistency that left spoon marks.
It is a pudding for adults with a slightly bitter caramel sauce.

Newly Started Night Business
Since November 2021, dinner service has started, so I visited in the evening as well.
The night menu changes depending on the season.
There are curries and sweets, but also pasta and meat dishes that are not on the lunch menu.

I ordered the cold dish of pork and prune pâté.
It is a dish fragrant with cumin spice.
It contains mushrooms and prunes inside.
This is a dish I especially recommend for those who enjoy alcohol.

I never expected to find water dumplings on the night menu at a curry shop.
The filling contains Bisei pork and shrimp, and is generously garnished with cilantro.
The water dumplings themselves are light, but the cilantro adds an ethnic touch.

I was also curious about the pasta, so I ordered the pasta with bottarga and Parmigiano.
I mixed it well, coating the noodles with bottarga and cheese, and took a bite.
It was simple, allowing me to enjoy the saltiness of the bottarga and the richness of the Parmigiano cheese.

In addition to soft drinks, the wine selection is extensive.
The wines offered are natural wines.
Natural wines refer to wines made without chemical fertilizers or synthetic pesticides, relying on natural processes.
The countries of origin for the wines are diverse, including the classic France and even some rare ones from Austria.
▼ The label of this artistic French white wine. It had a slight fizz.
