As of 2025, it operates 5 stores in Okayama Prefecture and 1 store in Hiroshima Prefecture. What kind of store is “Usagiya,” which continues to convey the charm of stationery through its diverse offerings and unique projects?
In November 2025, “Usagiya Kurashiki Store” will celebrate its 30th anniversary. We will introduce the journey of Usagiya, its passion for stationery, various initiatives, and its vision for the future.
What is “Usagiya”?
“Usagiya” is a large stationery specialty store operated by “KURABUN Co., Ltd.” (hereinafter referred to as “KURABUN”), which is engaged in the sale of stationery and office equipment, as well as office design and construction.
The name comes from the fact that 1951, the year KURABUN's president was born, was the “Year of the Rabbit.”
On November 1, 1995, Usagiya Kurashiki Store was established as an independent retail division of KURABUN.
After three renovations in 2004, 2012, and 2022, the store now features a café “Georges Lapin,” providing a relaxing space for customers to enjoy shopping.
By the way, “Georges Lapin” translates to “George the Rabbit” in French.

Upon entering the bright store, you are immediately overwhelmed by approximately 42,000 stationery items. The “excitement” just doesn’t stop.
Additionally, the gentle wood grains catch your eye. A warm and relaxing space envelops you, creating a comforting atmosphere.

A floor map at the entrance is set up to make the store layout easy to understand. The products are divided into eight large areas by category.

Many students also seem to use it for studying, and during exam periods, it becomes so popular that time limits are imposed.
The operating hours of Georges Lapin Kurashiki Store are from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (last order at 7:30 PM).

Original Writing Instruments
There are original fountain pens with names that will attract Okayama residents, and original inks that stimulate creativity with a rich variety of colors.
The ink names include “Bichu Soucolor Series,” “Star of Bisei,” and “Octopus of Shimotsui.” All names are said to be created by the staff.
Collaborations with Local Companies
Kurashiki Udon “Bukkake” Furuichi and Kikkodo are among the representative companies of Kurashiki with which Usagiya has collaboration products. The product lineup conveys a love for Kurashiki, attracting local people.
One of the collaboration products is a ballpoint pen with the name of “Marugo,” famous for its “chika tabi” (traditional Japanese footwear). A ballpoint pen with the name of a representative Kurashiki company is sure to be a point of pride.
There are also stationery items inspired by the representative Japanese sweets of Kurashiki, “Fujito Manju,” making them perfect souvenirs.
It’s no wonder that many visitors come from outside the prefecture.
