The exterior gives a slight sense of history as a storehouse, but upon entering, it has a stylish atmosphere of caffe antico Sion (hereafter: Sion).
In fact, it is said to be a storehouse from the Edo Period that has been passed down through the generations of the owner, the Shiogami family.
While it has now become a wonderful interior that makes anyone want to take photos, in the past, it was so cluttered with items that no one could touch it.
However, the owner was inspired by a friend's words, "Could this be used for something?" and began tidying up around 2010.
As a result, space gradually opened up, and the owner noticed that valuable items reflecting the history of the Shiogami family were preserved in good condition.
Thus, the thought arose that this storehouse could be transformed into a place of healing and cultural exchange surrounded by greenery.
Eventually, old documents and materials related to the region began to be displayed in the store, changing it into a space where many people could take a relaxing break.
A Comfortable Time in a Historic Storehouse
The charm of Sion is, above all, the 140-year-old historic storehouse.
The structure from that time remains intact, and the paintings hanging on the walls are very stylish and evoke a sense of history.
The dried flowers, tableware, piano, and noren (traditional shop curtain) near the entrance are all antiques that combine nostalgia and elegance.
Moreover, the paintings are primarily displayed by artists from Kojima, showcasing a commitment to local talent.
The counter chairs are beautiful British Ercol chairs, creating a unique atmosphere that is characteristic of Sion.
Enhancing this wonderful space is the BGM flowing through the store.
Classical music, including Baroque, collected by the owner as a hobby plays in the background, creating a very soothing atmosphere.
Sion makes you feel like, "I want to stay here forever."

Sion is located on a hill that overlooks Kojima.
The view from the slope leading to the store is a hidden scenic spot that can be seen for miles.
From the store, you can see Ojigadake Hill to the left and Otsuchijima Island straight ahead.
This beautiful scenery of Kojima can only be enjoyed here.
Additionally, the view changes depending on where you sit, so you can enjoy it every time you visit.

Inside the store, there are many valuable cutlery, trays, and plates that had been sleeping in the storehouse, all of which catch the eye.

Curry Overflowing with Kindness and Deliciousness
The dishes served at Sion are all made with great care.
On weekdays, hot sandwiches are available, and on Saturdays, tomato butter chicken curry is prepared, which is made without chemical seasonings and takes three days to prepare carefully.
The oil used is kept to a minimum, and the curry is made solely from the moisture of the juicy tomatoes, ginger, several spices, chicken fat, and butter, showcasing a thorough commitment.

Actually, the origin of the store's name has three meanings.
The first is the "shio" from the owner's surname Shiogami, and since the owner has a hobby of classical music, it became "Shioon Sion".
The second is that "Shion" flowers have been blooming around the store since ancient times.
The third is that the owner liked "Mount Zion," which appears in the Old Testament as a holy place, leading to the name Sion.
What are the Thoughts and Commitment to the Cuisine?

Items like cheesecake and gateau chocolat, which have been around since the opening, are evolving gradually by changing the proportions.
Additionally, we use seasonal ingredients and those harvested at Sion, combining them with the basic cake while tasting and considering the balance of flavors and textures.
What is the most important aspect you focus on in the store?

It is a healing space. Sion is a café, but the main focus is on a relaxing atmosphere, ambiance, and music.
The concept of “food is just an accompaniment” is what started this shop, so we prioritize the space above all else.

The view from the counter seats on the second floor around 3 PM to 5 PM is beautiful. Especially after the rain, it is a spectacular sight.

With the same feeling as when we started, I want to focus on creating a space where people can think, “This is a nice place to relax” and “I’m glad I came.”
