The annual event where you can enjoy the flavors and atmosphere of Kurashiki's shops is called “Harenomino Kurashiki,” commonly known as “Hare-kura”!
The author participated in the past and was very satisfied, thinking, “I can eat delicious food at such a great price!”
I will introduce how to participate in Harenomino Kurashiki and how to enjoy it.

What is Harenomino Kurashiki?
Harenomino Kurashiki is a one-day-only food and drink walking event.
When you go to participating shops with a ticket, you receive a drink and food.
It started in 2012, and 2019 marked the 9th event.
The event date for 2019 is November 4 (Monday, substitute holiday).
On the day of the event, you can see lines at various places in Kurashiki, making it a popular event that livens up the town.
Both those who enjoy alcohol and those who do not can have fun.
How to participate in Harenomino Kurashiki
You can participate in Harenomino Kurashiki by purchasing a ticket.
There are two types of tickets:

When you bring the ticket to a participating shop, you will receive a set of one drink and one food item for each ticket.
You can use multiple tickets at one shop, and the booklet (5 tickets) can be shared among multiple people.
The advance ticket is 700 yen per ticket.
If you use 5 tickets, the advance ticket is more economical.
Some people use one set per person, while others may reserve 2 sets for three people and buy additional individual tickets as needed on the day.
No worries if you have leftover tickets: “Ato-nomino”
The event is only for one day, but there is a system called “Ato-nomino” that allows you to use leftover tickets without worry.
From November 5 (Tuesday) to November 11 (Monday), leftover tickets can be used as 700 yen vouchers at “Ato-nomino” participating shops.
You can check participating shops on the guide map or the official website.
No change will be given, but you can use multiple tickets at one shop.
How to obtain tickets
There are two ways to obtain tickets.
- Reserve through the Hare-kura official website's email form
- Purchase at participating shops or ticket handling partner shops
If you reserve tickets through the email form, visit the Harenomino Kurashiki office (Danaduwa) to exchange for payment.
The exchange times are as follows:
If you reserve, you can exchange at the advance price on the day of the event.

13 shops participated for the first time, and all are within an area of about 1 km square, easily accessible on foot from JR Kurashiki Station.
The lineup includes a wide variety of cuisines: Japanese, Western, Chinese, Korean, barbecue, skewers, izakaya, cafes, and bars.

Using one ticket for 700 yen (800 yen for same-day tickets), you can quickly check the taste, atmosphere, and service of the shop.
It's also convenient for scouting shops for dates, business meetings, or year-end parties where you want to avoid mistakes.
It's a nice point that you can casually enter high-end shops or those that are usually hard to get into without a reservation.
There are voices saying, “I thought bars were high hurdles, but after visiting one during Hare-kura, it was so good that I plan to go again.”
When the author participated in the past, they also found many shops they wanted to visit again.
Enjoy unique menus exclusive to Harenomino Kurashiki
Some shops offer limited menus that can only be eaten at Hare-kura.
Even for regular menus, it is often possible to enjoy them at a more reasonable price than usual.
Taste various menus in one day
Since the participating shops are diverse, being able to taste a little bit of everything in one day is one of the attractions.
For example, you can start with appetizers, then have sashimi, fried dishes, finish with udon, and end with desserts, all from specialty shops.
It's also nice that you can decide on the spot based on your hunger level and mood, saying, “Maybe I’ll go for curry after all.”
