One company contributing to this is Sakamoto Keiran Co., Ltd., headquartered in Mizushima, Kurashiki City, which handles everything from egg production and processing to direct sales.
Sakamoto Keiran, which operates under the philosophy of “Pursuing authentic value together with the community as an all-round egg company,” has been holding a regular event since 2021: HOSHINOSATO EGG MARCHE (hereafter, “Egg Marche”).
“HOSHINOSATO EGG MARCHE” is held in Bisei Town, Ibara City, home to Sakamoto Keiran’s Bisei Farm, and in Mizushima, Kurashiki City, where its head office is located. It has become so popular that lines form even on rainy days.

HOSHINOSATO EGG MARCHE in Mizushima is a market event being held on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
The event’s defining feature is that every vendor offers products made with eggs or products related to chickens or eggs.
The venue is the lawn plaza at Mizushima Ai-ai Salon.
This will be the fourth time the event has been held in Mizushima, with 31 vendors from across Okayama Prefecture who have connections with Sakamoto Keiran taking part.

We spoke with Sakamoto Akiyoshi, president and CEO of Sakamoto Keiran Co., Ltd., about “HOSHINOSATO EGG MARCHE in Mizushima.”
Could you tell us how “HOSHINOSATO EGG MARCHE in Mizushima” came about?

It originally began in 2021 at the Bisei Direct Sales Store, in Bisei Town, Ibara City, Okayama Prefecture, which is another Sakamoto Keiran location.
We started it partly to contribute to revitalizing the community, but also because we wanted people to reconsider the value of eggs beyond their price.
We asked vendors to serve dishes and sweets made with “Hoshinosato Eggs,” eggs produced by Sakamoto Keiran. The first event had just three vendors.
The event has been held in Mizushima since 2023, and this will be the fourth Egg Marche there.
How has the event been received so far?

Around 1,000 people have attended in Mizushima, and some vendors have had lines.
There was one event in the past when it rained, and I thought no customers would come at all and wondered what we should do. But I was surprised when I saw so many customers coming to shop with their umbrellas up.
This will be the fourth time the event has been held in Mizushima. To make it more enjoyable for our customers, we keep experimenting each time, including introducing new products and improving the venue.
We’ve always used every inch of the lawn plaza for the vendor booths, but this time we’re thinking of making the layout a little more compact.
This will shorten the walk from the parking lot and make it easier to get around the entire venue.
Do you have any recommendations for how to enjoy the event?

Not only shops in Kurashiki City, but also shops based in Okayama City and Ibara City will be taking part.
I hope you’ll enjoy the wide variety of products made with eggs.
Sakamoto Keiran will offer its four regular types of egg sandwiches, as well as an egg sandwich available only on the day and a new gelato product!
We also hope that people who haven’t had a chance to visit Mizushima before will come to the area for Egg Marche and enjoy doing some shopping.
Mizushima still has many old buildings, and you can enjoy its retro streetscape. After shopping at Egg Marche, I hope you’ll take a walk and enjoy Mizushima on your way home.
What would you like visitors to take away from the event?

I hope they’ll think, “You can do so many different things with just one egg.” I want people to appreciate the value and potential of eggs beyond their price.
As you enjoy the dishes and sweets, I hope you’ll imagine where and how eggs are used. For handmade goods and other items, some products are shaped like eggs or incorporate something related to eggs, so I hope you’ll have fun looking for those details.

There will be not only a variety of restaurants and sweets shops, but also general-goods shops, so please come along.

Even when it rains, HOSHINOSATO EGG MARCHE in Mizushima draws many visitors.
During this interview, I could really feel Mr. Sakamoto’s love and passion for eggs. It got me thinking, “What qualities make an egg good for me?”
I also thought that the concept of a market focused on eggs was fresh and original. I’d like to go with a friend on the day, buy a variety of things, and enjoy sharing them.
This time, the event will be held on the lawn at Ai-ai Salon, which has free parking. If you’re taking public transportation, you can walk there from Mizushima Station.
