Rice flour, what kind of products come to mind when you hear that?
In recent years, advancements in milling technology have allowed rice flour to be used in a variety of products. In Kurashiki, there are increasing numbers of shops that offer not only bread and sweets but also surprising items like fried chicken and taiyaki, making you wonder, "Wait, this is made with rice flour?"
One way to enjoy the new charm of rice flour is through the Rice Flour Stamp Rally.
I visited participating stores and tasted a variety of unique rice flour gourmet dishes.
What is the 3rd Rice Flour Stamp Rally?

How to participate in the Rice Flour Stamp Rally
You can apply by collecting stamps from 3 participating stores that handle rice flour products. You will receive one stamp for each purchase or dining experience.
However, if you have two stamps from the same store or if there are omissions or errors in your address, name, or contact information, your application will be invalid, so please be careful.
The pamphlet with the stamp rally sheet is distributed at participating stores.
Additionally, it can also be downloaded and printed from the Kurashiki Komeko Project website.
Fried Chicken Takeout Specialty Store "Karaageya Maki"
The first place I visited was the takeout specialty store "Karaageya Maki" located in Tamashima, Kurashiki City.

In front of the store, a menu board is lined up. There are so many varieties that it felt like it was too good to just call it "fried chicken."

The target product for the Rice Flour Stamp Rally is "Samurai Chicken."

This name is quite impactful.
It is said to be named "Samurai Chicken" because the seasoning and dip incorporate traditional Japanese ingredients such as perilla, tea leaves, rice flour, and matcha.
The white grains on the surface of the fried chicken are rice.

It seems that raw rice is crushed in a blender and sifted, with the coarser rice remaining in the mesh being coated onto the chicken. I was surprised by this innovative idea.
When you take a bite, the pleasant popping texture of the rice is enjoyable and fun to chew.
And an essential part is the special matcha dip.

The flavor of perilla is effective, wrapping the chicken fat in a refreshing way.
The bite-sized fried chicken is not only suitable for adults as a snack but also seems easy for small children to eat.
Bakery & Cafe Chaya Cafe
After enjoying the fried chicken, I started craving something sweet.
The next place I visited was "Bakery & Cafe Chaya Cafe" located in Chayamachi, Kurashiki City.

It is located right at the entrance of the care service facility "Soshinkai Rehabilitation Town East Building," and can be easily used by people other than facility staff.

At Chaya Cafe, they sell baked goods made with rice flour. The prices range from 160 yen to 200 yen (including tax), making them great for souvenirs or gifts.

・Rice Flour Gateau Chocolat
・Rice Flour Tuile
・Rice Flour Stamp Cookies (with drip coffee)
・Rice Flour Coffee Cookies
・Rice Flour Nut Cookies
・Rice Flour Lemon Cake
The bread sold in the same space is not made solely from rice flour due to the store's circumstances. Therefore, they thought, "How can we deliver the deliciousness unique to rice flour in another form?" and created the rice flour taiyaki.

These are mini-sized, about the size of ningyo-yaki, and are gluten-free (made without gluten found in wheat and other ingredients). They are priced at 300 yen (including tax) for a pack of four, with two varieties: custard and red bean paste.
You can choose any combination of flavors, and this time I selected two custard and two red bean paste.

The outside is crispy, and the dough is chewy.
Since they are baked after you place your order, the warmth of the freshly made taiyaki is especially delightful.
BAKE SHOP KURASIS
The last place I visited was BAKE SHOP KURASIS, located in Kamihigashi, Kurashiki City.

At this shop, they sell OKOME bread made from raw rice instead of rice flour, as well as baked goods made from rice flour.
The bread is baked around 11 AM, and the types vary by day. It is recommended to check their Instagram in advance. They also accept phone reservations.

On the day I visited, I was able to purchase the following breads.

・Rich honey cheese bread
・Corn mayo
・Sweet potato bread
・Bagel (plain)
・Salt bread
I tried the sweet potato bread recommended by the shop staff.
In Korean, "coguma" means "sweet potato." It is a limited-time item sold in line with the sweet potato harvest season.
When I broke it in half, it was packed with chunks of sweet potato.

The dough has a strong chewy texture, and the gentle sweetness of the sweet potato is characteristic.
It is filling and satisfies the stomach well.
In Conclusion

While visiting the shops, I heard several discussions about allergies and the term "gluten-free."
What surprised me about rice flour products is that some commercially available products may contain wheat as part of the ingredients. I had always thought that rice flour products meant those without wheat.
On the other hand, among the stores I visited during this rice flour stamp rally, there were those that focused on making products exclusively from rice flour, and those that clearly displayed the ingredients, making it easy to confirm any concerns with the shop staff.
Such initiatives feel reassuring as someone who has to choose what to eat.
My child has a food allergy.
Therefore, I feel it would be wonderful if options could expand so that we can eat the same things together and say, "This is delicious," regardless of allergies.
A new form of food created by rice.
This stamp rally event allowed me to feel that potential through local shops.
