Patisserie Piaget Kojima Main Store - A cute cake shop in Kojima where tradition and innovation blend. The feelings embedded in the blue cake.

パティスリー・ピアジェ児島本店 〜 伝統と斬新さが融合した児島のかわいいケーキ屋。青いケーキに込められた想い

What do you imagine when you hear "blue cake"?

In fact, the author has never eaten blue food.

This is because blue is typically considered a color that diminishes appetite.

However, there was a cake in Kojima that overturned such a concept.

The name of the shop is Patisserie Piaget (hereafter, Piaget).

At Piaget, you can enjoy seasonal sweets made with fresh ingredients.

Not only the taste but also the various designs of the sweets are like jewels, allowing you to enjoy them visually.

In this article, I will introduce the charm of "Patisserie Piaget".

What is Patisserie Piaget?

Inside the shop

Piaget Kojima Main Store is located about a 20-minute walk from Kojima Station along Route 430.

In addition to the main store, there is another store in Kurashiki Nakasho.

The showcase was lined with beautiful cakes that looked like jewels.

Showcase

At the back of the shop, there is also an eat-in corner where you can enjoy your purchases on-site as well as take them home.

In 2022, Piaget celebrated its 32nd anniversary, attracting not only local customers but also visitors from afar.

Kojima, where the main store of Piaget is located, is the birthplace of domestically produced jeans and was originally a prosperous town due to the salt production industry.

Based on this background of Kojima, there was a cake that expressed THE Kojima.

Many guitars on display

Guitar

In the eat-in space, there were many guitars on display.

These are said to be placed there as a hobby of the owner.

This is a delight for guitar lovers.

Award in the Western Confectionery Contest Marzipan Category

Contest award

Inside the shop, there is a plaque displayed from when they won the contest.

These awards were won for making "marzipan".

Marzipan is a confection made from ground almonds, sugar, and egg whites.

It is also called "malt paste," and you can think of it as the animals, flowers, Santa Claus, or snowmen that are often placed on top of cakes.

▼This is a character from "Demon Slayer," and it took about a month to create.

Each character is reproduced in detail, as if they have jumped out of the screen.

While they are edible, they are generally enjoyed more for their visual appeal than for eating.

Now, let me introduce the cakes I actually ate.

Eating in the eat-in space inside the shop

I will eat the cakes I purchased in the shop.

All the cakes looked beautiful and delicious, so I was indecisive.

Denim and Premium Mont Blanc

I ordered Denim and Premium Mont Blanc.

Denim is a cake created to represent Kojima, the town of denim.

It has a round and cute appearance, and the denim blue looks great in photos.

Denim

When I cut it, I found that it has seven layers.

The breakdown of the seven layers is as follows:

  • 1st layer: Gardenia glaze
  • 2nd layer: Salt vanilla mousse
  • 3rd layer: Hazelnut brulee
  • 4th layer: Apricot jelly
  • 5th layer: Hazelnut feuilletine
  • 6th layer: Apricot syrup and meringue pound
  • 7th layer: Chocolate-coated sable

The 1st layer is gardenia glaze.
Glaze is a cooking method that coats the surface to add shine and prevent drying.
This makes the surface glossy and shine like a mirror.

The 2nd layer is salt vanilla mousse.
This salt vanilla mousse uses local salt from Kojima.
The sweetness of vanilla and the saltiness go well together.

Denim allows you to enjoy different textures and flavors in each layer, not just its appearance.

This cake, which allows you to taste the rich salt vanilla mousse along with hazelnuts and apricots, is truly a specialty.

Mont Blanc

The Premium Mont Blanc was a cake that was easy to eat with a moderate sweetness.

It contained finely chopped chestnuts, making it delicious.

Additionally, it is rare for a Mont Blanc to have cassis mousse inside.

The sweet and sour taste of the cassis mousse pairs well with the chestnut cream, and even though it was the second cake, I finished it easily.

At Piaget, you can enjoy delicious cakes and hospitality-filled service.

I spoke with the manager of Piaget, Arinobu Ryusei.
