What are the thoughts behind holding "Kurabo-ro"? Interview with the organizers

After the event, we interviewed the organizers about their thoughts on "Kurabo-ro".

We spoke with Yoko Senoo, the chief of the Kurashiki City Gender Equality Division, and Tadashi Takatsuka, the deputy chief.

Can you tell us about the background of starting Kurabo-ro?

Takatsuka

Kurabo-ro is a project that started in the fiscal year 2020. This year (fiscal year 2021) marks its second year.

Before the fiscal year 2020, we held seminars on work style reform for businesses.

In the future, we want to propose work styles to individuals, which is why we planned Kurabo-ro.

Senoo

It is implemented as part of the Kurashiki City Gender Equality Division's projects.

At its core, there is a desire to "create a society where women can thrive".

Indeed, there are people, such as those raising children, who may not belong to a company.

We believe that individuals should have more options for their work styles.

What is the purpose of holding these sessions?

Takatsuka

As the name "Work Style Discovery Marche" suggests, it is a place where diverse people can discover diverse work styles.

While women are the main focus, everyone, regardless of gender, can participate.

Since the "life" part of work-life balance varies for each person, we aim to create a space that serves as a trigger for each individual to think about their own work style.

How did you decide on the content of the courses for fiscal year 2021?

Takatsuka

We have incorporated content that helps people understand work styles using the internet more concretely.

We have a wide range of courses, from those that provide an introduction to work styles to practical courses.

First, we want participants to know what kinds of telework are available.

Then, we want them to actually experience it.

This way, when they want to start working, the barriers will be lower than before participating in the courses.

If they can attend multiple sessions, I believe their perspective on working will change.

What kind of people do you want to participate?

Takatsuka

Regardless of gender, it would be great if people who have not been familiar with the internet until now could participate.

I hope that those who think "this is a story from Tokyo" or "this is an elite story" will realize that there are work styles that anyone can challenge.

My biggest expectation is that by participating in the Kurabo-ro courses, telework, which was once someone else's business, becomes their own.

Senoo

I believe that if people who are looking for work styles while facing constraints, such as those raising children or caring for others, participate, their possibilities will expand.

The nature of work is changing now, and I want to convey that "there are jobs that can be done regardless of the work location".

The Kurabo-ro courses are two hours each.

You can participate online, so I think the barriers to participation are low.

We will also keep an archive, so you can review it when you want to check again.

I think many people are interested in jobs using the internet but do not know where to start.

At Kurabo-ro, you can learn about the real job content and necessary skills, so I felt that it seems safe to challenge a new work style.

Sharing the current situation and challenging new work styles together may provide a sense of security.

Kurabo-ro will offer various courses until December 2021.
