Midori no Ichi Vol.27 "Curry and ICE" (held on September 15, 2024) - A classic market that is compact and brings people closer together. The next one will be on October 14 (Monday, holiday).

ル・ヴェールル・ヴェール

At the Western-style confectionery shop "Patisserie Le Vert" located in Hiroe, Kurashiki City, a market event is held regularly, though not every month. It is called "Midori no Ichi."

The market is held using the inside of the shop and the area in front of the store, making it a compact market.

While large markets have various vendor booths, which can be enjoyable in their own right, they can feel somewhat distant. However, with the compactness of something like Midori no Ichi, the interaction with the staff is more friendly.

Midori no Ichi has a theme for each event, and the theme for the event on September 15 (Sunday) was "Curry and ICE." I had heard of it but had never been, so I decided to check it out.

Midori no Ichi is a market event held almost every month at Patisserie Le Vert. The event on September 15, 2024 (Sunday) will be the 27th edition (Vol.27).

Each time, a theme is set, and vendors prepare and sell products that align with the theme. Of course, there are also products that are always sold, making the offerings quite diverse.

▼ Including this time, the themes for the past three events were as follows:

  • Vol.27: Curry and ICE
  • Vol.26: Blueberry
  • Vol.25: Okayama

The themes range from straightforward to abstract, showcasing a wide variety.

The vendors for the event on September 15 (Sunday) are as follows.

First, let's go for what we want

The theme is "Curry and ICE," but first, I want to go for what we desire.

Ichigo-ya ROSSO: Shaved Strawberry

Shaved Strawberry

The first thing I noticed was the Shaved Strawberry from Ichigo-ya ROSSO. On the day of the market, the lingering summer heat made my body crave something refreshing.

Ichigo-ya ROSSO is a small strawberry farm run by a couple in Funao, Kurashiki City. They freeze the strawberries they carefully cultivate and serve them in a shaved ice machine.

Eating it as is allows you to fully enjoy the 100% strawberry flavor, juiciness, and coldness. Adding condensed milk to taste makes it even better!

My children love the Shaved Strawberry from Ichigo-ya ROSSO, and whenever they spot it at a market, they almost always insist on buying it.

Wood-fired Pizza Rosso: Margherita

Pizza Oven

Since I arrived at the venue close to lunchtime, I was hungry... There were various food trucks, and after some deliberation, I chose the Margherita from Wood-fired Pizza Rosso.

Wood-fired Pizza Rosso operates a red food truck mainly in Ibara City.

Of course, they prepare the pizza dough and add toppings only after an order is placed, baking it in the pizza oven installed in the food truck. This waiting time is also part of the enjoyment.

The finished Margherita had a good balance of sweetness and acidity from the tomato sauce, and the children were eating it with great focus. The crispy edges of the pizza are proof that it was baked in a pizza oven. It was fragrant and delicious!

Pay attention to the themed products

After getting what I wanted, I turned my attention to the theme "Curry and ICE."

Kitchen Pukochi: Curry Kimbap

Pukochi

Kitchen Pukochi is known for its "original grilled meat secret yakisoba." It contains offal and is a bit spicy, making you crave beer... But today, I want to focus on the themed product!

That is the Curry Kimbap. Regular kimbap is delicious, but how does kimbap with the very popular "curry" taste?

Munch munch... I see, the rice part has curry elements. The ingredients are just like kimbap. I didn't expect it, but it's quite a good combination.

25★25: ICE Hair Tie

ICE Hair Tie

The other theme is "ICE." Patisserie Le Vert, the organizer, also has sweets made with ice... However, I wanted to get something from a different vendor.

I targeted 25★25, which creates wonderful handmade products. They had an ICE Hair Tie available. My son found it.

He said, "I'm going to buy this as a souvenir for mom, who couldn't come today," using his pocket money. How sweet of him! The shop owner and those around seemed to share the same sentiment, creating a warm atmosphere.

Conclusion: The next event will be on 10/14 (Monday, holiday)

Midori no Ichi is a regularly held marche event. If you read this report article and think, "I want to go!", it can be realized immediately!

The next event will be held on October 14, 2024 (Monday, public holiday), and the theme is "Sesame and Salt". It feels somewhat "Japanese," doesn't it?

You can enjoy various limited foods, sweets, and bread made with the two key ingredients, "salt," which is essential for flavor, and "sesame," which becomes fragrant when roasted.

As the season turns to autumn and it gets cooler, why not take a trip to Midori no Ichi?
