If you come to the Bikan Historical Area, you will definitely see the restaurant "KAMOI".
It is located right by the Kurashiki River, and is always bustling from lunch to coffee time.
With a variety of Japanese dishes that can be enjoyed by all generations, it is perfect for outings with three generations.
They offer dishes like Mamakari sushi, Nuku sushi, and Bukkake udon made with KAMOI's special black beans.
How about enjoying a delicious moment in the Bikan Historical Area while admiring the changing scenery outside the window?
Right by the Kurashiki River! "KAMOI" in the heart of the Bikan Historical Area

The beautiful white walls of "KAMOI".
The charming building is a renovated old storehouse, and the current owner is the second generation.
Even if you don't know the name KAMOI, you might have seen this exterior before, right?

At the entrance of the restaurant, there are food samples, making it easy to get an idea of the menu.
By the way, next to KAMOI is the Ohara family villa "Yurinsou", and across the bridge is the "Ohara Museum of Art", making it truly located in the center of the Bikan Historical Area.

The interior is spacious with wide aisles, and there is a ramp at the entrance, making it accessible for wheelchair users.
With table seats resembling an irori (traditional Japanese hearth) and lighting that looks like washi (Japanese paper), the overall atmosphere is calm and modern Japanese.

What you see outside the window is the Kurashiki River. It’s nice to just gaze at the beautiful scenery.
The large windows provide a special seat where you can enjoy the changing seasons.

The tatami seating can accommodate up to 12 people. It’s helpful for those with small children to have tatami seating available.
The restaurant is completely non-smoking, so children and elderly people can relax without worry.
Being easy to enter for three generations might be one of KAMOI's characteristics.

The first floor has a total of 80 seats (including 12 tatami seats). However, there are often lines on holidays.
Additionally, the toilet on the first floor is barrier-free, so it is accessible for wheelchair users.
A rich menu of udon, sushi, tempura... Coffee is also available
KAMOI offers a wide variety of menus including sushi, Japanese set meals, and coffee.
Here are some selected items with photos.
Menu and prices as of November 2018

Sushi, seafood bowls, sashimi, etc. The regular sushi is priced at 1,000 yen (excluding tax), which is wallet-friendly.

You can't miss the local specialty Mamakari!
One of KAMOI's popular menu items is "Mamakari sushi". It can also be ordered as a single item.
By the way, do you know the origin of the word "Mamakari"?
Mamakari = borrowing (mama) rice.
It is a small fish that is loved for its meaning of being so delicious that you want to go borrow rice.
Additionally, the chirashi sushi called "Daikan sushi" and "Nuku sushi" are also highly recommended by KAMOI.
If you come to Okayama, you should definitely try this sushi at least once.

Bukkake udon, which originated in Kurashiki.
This soul food of Kurashiki is eaten by pouring sweet and savory broth over the udon, but KAMOI's Bukkake seems to have a twist...! (Details later)

The set meal menu is also diverse.
The luxurious "Kurashiki set meal" allows you to taste the seasonal flavors of Okayama, and I want to try it at least once~!!

The "KAMOI set meal" comes with the restaurant's name.
There is a note saying "※ By the way, there is no duck included," but it might be misunderstood.
KAMOI's recommended "Mamakari set meal" features grilled Mamakari, sashimi, tempura... all about Mamakari!
While the mainstream is Mamakari marinated in vinegar, the sashimi and tempura are not something you can easily taste.

There are various sweets that children would love. It is a highly convenient restaurant that can be casually used as a coffee shop.
KAMOI is popular not only among locals but also with many customers from outside the prefecture. In particular, they want you to enjoy the Okayama specialties
Mamakari, Chirashi sushi
is what they want you to savor.

By the way, the payment methods support various electronic money and credit cards.
Black udon!? KAMOI's special Bukkake udon with a twist

Here is KAMOI's special noodle dish, "Tempura Bukkake Udon" for 1,000 yen (excluding tax).
By the way, the single Bukkake udon is 500 yen (excluding tax).

What’s distinctive about this noodle! Can you see the slight black tint?
The secret of this color is black bean kinako.
The kinako made from black beans from Mabi, Okayama Prefecture is kneaded into the noodles, resulting in a noodle with black specks.

Udon with black bean kinako is chewy and has a unique elasticity!
The slightly sweet broth pairs well with the firm udon.
When you chew, the noodles burst with a pop, giving a different impression from regular udon.
I felt that the Bukkake broth matched KAMOI's udon even better.

The tempura includes five types: shrimp, shishito peppers, sweet potatoes, lotus root, and eggplant.
Everything is freshly fried and crispy, and when eaten with udon, it fills you up.
Beautifully colored Kurashiki bento. The tofu tempura is delicious!

This is the "Kurashiki bento" for 1,300 yen (excluding tax). The sound of "bento" makes me excited.
The contents of the bento include a layered box with simmered dishes and tempura, rice, pickles, and clear soup.

The shrimp, pumpkin, kelp, and konjac are lightly sweetened and overall have a refined flavor.
The grilled fish is tender and flaky saury. You can enjoy a local specialty of Okayama here as well.

Next to the simmered dishes is the tempura.
Lotus root, eggplant, shishito peppers, sweet potato, and a rare tofu tempura are included.
This is not deep-fried tofu but plain tofu tempura. I wonder what it tastes like.

When I tried it, hot tofu came out from the crispy coating.
The flavor of the tofu is richer than when eaten plain! And creamy.
It is lighter than deep-fried tofu, allowing you to enjoy the flavor of the tofu even more.
Winter limited Nuku sushi. A gentle taste that warms the stomach

This is the recommended winter limited "Nuku sushi" for 1,000 yen (excluding tax) from KAMOI.
It is warm sushi steamed in a bamboo steamer, hence the name Nuku sushi.
It is a regional dish from the Kansai region to the west, but you don't often see it on menus at restaurants.
Personally, I have loved Nuku sushi since long ago, so I am happy to encounter it at KAMOI!

The ingredients are luxurious, as if they have condensed the flavors of Okayama.
Eel, shrimp, saury, high-protein tofu, wild vegetables, and the bright yellow of the kinshi tamago (thin omelet) are all present.

Hot steam! Along with this steam, a soft and pleasant aroma of vinegar wafts through.
With one bite, a gentle flavor spreads.
The sharp scent of vinegar is softened by the heat, and the warm rice comforts the stomach.
Nuku sushi is something you want to eat in the cold winter. I definitely want you to try it at least once.

You can't forget about "Mamakari sushi". It is 250 yen (excluding tax) for two pieces.
KAMOI's Mamakari sushi is exquisite, as the vinegared rice crumbles in your mouth!
The vinegared mackerel is just right in its acidity.
Even though I was full from the Kurashiki bento, the deliciousness made me reach for more.

Located in the heart of the Bikan Historical Area, "KAMOI KAKOSHI CO., LTD." is a place you can casually drop by.
I thought it might be an upscale restaurant, but it turned out to be a cozy place just right for families.
With flavors unique to Okayama, such as Mamakari and Bukkake udon with black soybean flour, it is perfect for guiding visitors from outside the prefecture.
With beautiful scenery and stable Japanese cuisine, this restaurant makes me love the Bikan Historical Area even more.
