A 2-minute walk from the ticket gates at JR Kurashiki Station.
Have you ever found yourself thinking, “I have a little time before my train home arrives”? There’s a bar just near Kurashiki Station where you can drop in on a whim.
“BAR Kurashiki capri” opened in January 2018. Its owner had run a coffee shop in Okayama City since 2007, followed by a dining bar in 2013.
It’s in a fantastic location, directly across from the bicycle parking lot at Mizushima Rinkai Railway Kurashiki Station!
This bar is filled with the owner’s vision of offering “a space unlike the ordinary,” with “relaxation” as its theme. Why not enjoy some time unwinding here?

Three distinctive spaces themed around “relaxation”
The first thing to catch your eye when you enter BAR Kurashiki capri is the counter seating.
It’s a space where you can chat with the friendly owner, drop in easily even on your own, and stay for a long conversation.
There are power outlets right below the counter, so you can charge your mobile phone or smartphone, and free Wi-Fi is also available.
Just inside the entrance on the left are four tables with seating for two.
With slightly dim lighting, these seats are recommended for friends or a date.
And last, let’s take a look at the loft upstairs!
Take care as you climb the stairs between the counter and table seating.
Shoes are not allowed upstairs, so please take them off before going up.
Slippers are provided, too.
The second-floor loft has sofa seating where you can take off your shoes and relax.
It’s apparently so comfortable that some customers who’ve had a drink find it hard to come back downstairs.

From above, did you notice that each of the round tables has a different color scheme?
Looking around the interior from different angles, you’ll notice the attention to detail in the decor and appreciate the care taken to create a relaxing atmosphere.
And there’s no cover charge for any of the seats!
The owner’s carefully selected menu
Here are some of the drinks on the menu.
Drinks include beer, highballs, and cocktails.
Non-alcoholic cocktails and hot coffee are served in pots.
The food menu includes snacks such as nuts and edamame, as well as baguette, grilled rice balls, and bacon steak.
There’s also a great selection of food, including pizza and ajillo.
A full food menu, from coffee to alcoholic drinks
First up is “Capri Blue,” an original drink named after the bar.
Made with lychee liqueur, soda, and Calpis, it has a sweet, easy-to-drink flavor. The contrast between its blue and light-blue colors makes for a beautiful, festive-looking drink.
The drink that was popular at the time of our 2019 visit was the “Okayama Prefecture White Peach Highball.”
It’s an easy-to-drink highball with a subtle sweetness of peach.
Sautéed “Quattro Sausages.”
Four kinds of sausage: smoked, white, basil, and chorizo.
Bite into the piping-hot sausages on the griddle, and the savory meat and fat spread across your tongue, making you want another drink.
“Mentaiko Baguette” (4 slices).
The salty mentaiko soaks into the crisp, toasted baguette, making a perfect match.
The “Generously Topped Prosciutto Pizza” is a thin, crispy pizza topped, just as its name suggests, with plenty of prosciutto!
A simple seasoning of olive oil brings out the saltiness of the prosciutto in this deeply flavorful dish.
The “homemade rare chocolate” is also available for takeout.
This fresh chocolate was apparently developed under the supervision of Patisserie Pomme Vert, a Western-style confectionery shop in Kurashiki.
The chocolate has a subtle sweetness that pairs well with the pleasantly bitter powder, making it just the right dessert after a meal.
We highly recommend trying the coffee, carefully prepared by the owner using the hand-drip method.
Apparently, some people visit specifically for the coffee without having any alcohol.
It has a clean, refreshing taste that makes you want to have cup after cup, and it is served in a pot, so you can enjoy about two and a half cups.
A BAR where you can enjoy dessert and coffee—you may find yourself relaxing before you know it.
Next, we spoke with Yoichi Kazuno, owner of BAR Kurashiki capri, who spent 12 years gaining experience in various places, about the history of “capri” and his thoughts and dedication to the establishment.
