[Moto-ya] - Aiming to be a beloved local shop. A specialty store for fruit sandwiches filled with seasonal flavors.

もとや フルーツサンド

A fruit sandwich filled with a generous amount of pure white cream and a variety of colorful fruits.

For the author as a child, fruit sandwiches were a special and coveted food.

There is a specialty store for fruit sandwiches that fulfills this longing, right in front of the station in Kurashiki.

The fruit sandwich specialty store "MOTOYA" is located inside the "Kurashiki City Plaza West Building," just a short walk from JR Kurashiki Station.

The store's showcase is lined with vibrant fruit sandwiches, allowing you to enjoy seasonal fruits whenever you visit.

In autumn, when the season changes, we recommend the unique fruit sandwiches featuring pears and persimmons.

How about indulging in a slightly luxurious fruit sandwich from Kurashiki for lunch or as a souvenir?

The store closed in December 2022.
The information provided below is from when it was in operation.

MOTOYA exterior

The fruit sandwich specialty store "MOTOYA" is located on the second floor of the Kurashiki City Plaza West Building, just a short walk from JR Kurashiki Station.

Since its opening in January 2018, its deliciousness has gradually spread through word of mouth, and it seems that the number of male customers has recently increased.

You can also see the MOTOYA logo from the stairs of the West Building.

Under the simple and clean noren (traditional shop curtain) of MOTOYA, there are always about 10 to 14 types of fruit sandwiches available.

According to the store manager, Mr. Tsutada, the best selection is right at 11 AM when the store opens.

MOTOYA eat-in

There is also an eat-in area at the back of the store.
It's nice that there is a place to wash your hands as well.

Fruit sandwiches packed with seasonal flavors. Non-sweet sandwiches too

MOTOYA fruit sandwich

The triangular cross-section of MOTOYA's fruit sandwich is beautiful.

In early October 2019, when the interview was conducted, the showcase featured autumn fruits such as Shine Muscat grapes, pears, figs, and persimmons.

The most popular fruit sandwich is "MOTOYA's Fruit Sandwich" priced at 350 yen (including tax).
This fruit sandwich can be enjoyed all year round.

With strawberries, bananas, kiwi, and plenty of fresh cream,
it's a classic product that appeals to everyone.

MOTOYA fig sandwich

Seasonal limited figs and Shine Muscat grapes, which are unique to Okayama, also have many loyal fans.

In particular, figs are often purchased by female customers.

Motoya Sandwich

There are also savory sandwiches such as avocado cheese, egg, and potato.

As a lunch option, a combination of sweet fruit sandwiches and savory sandwiches seems to be popular.

How Wonderful! Seasonal Fruit Sandwich and Strawberry Lemonade

Motoya Fruit Sandwich

I had the fruit sandwich recommended by the manager, Tsutada, along with strawberry lemonade.

From the left, the following three types are included.

  • Motoya Fruit Sandwich
  • Pear
  • Persimmon
Motoya Fruit Sandwich

Fluffy, moist bread with fresh cream.
And the "Motoya Fruit Sandwich" is filled with strawberries, bananas, and kiwis.

It tastes like the ideal fruit sandwich I dreamed of as a child.
This combination seems to be popular among many people!

This fruit sandwich allows you to enjoy the sweet and sourness of strawberries and kiwis, along with the rich sweetness of bananas.

Motoya Persimmon Fruit Sandwich

This is the "Persimmon Fruit Sandwich."
This is unexpectedly delicious and surprising!

Don't you think, "Do persimmons and fresh cream go well together?"
Surprisingly, they match incredibly well!
After eating this, you'll want to combine persimmons with fresh cream when you eat them.

The flesh of the persimmon spreads juicily, with a juiciness like that of a mandarin orange.
I was able to reaffirm that "persimmons are such a delicious fruit."

Motoya Pear Fruit Sandwich

And here is the manager Tsutada's recommendation, the "Pear Fruit Sandwich."
Look at this beautifully cut cross-section!

They struggled with how to combine fresh cream and pear.
After much trial and error, the staff decided to slice the pear thinly and layer it for the sandwich.

Since they use fresh pears, the freshness and crunchiness are preserved.
This is simply amazing!

Motoya Strawberry Lemonade

Strawberry lemonade with syrup-soaked strawberries and lemons.

It's very refreshing and delicious!
The strawberries and lemons inside can also be eaten as they are.

Each fruit sandwich at Motoya is made with great care.

We interviewed the store manager, Tsutada Rui, about the secret to their deliciousness, the store's origins, and future plans.
