Many tourists are visiting this year (2023), but one event that you might expect to find here, yet surprisingly hasn’t been held, is a “marche.”
“There just isn’t a site where a marche could be held…”
I understood the reason, but then I heard that a marche would be held in the Bikan Historical Area after all. What’s more, I was intrigued to hear that it would be held in the “courtyard” of the Ohara Museum of Art, a cultural institution Kurashiki is proud of, so I went to see what it was like.

What is the “Ohara Museum of Art Courtyard Marche”?
The “Ohara Museum of Art Courtyard Marche,” hosted by the Ohara Museum of Art Museum Shop, was held on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This small marche featured 10 vendors in the courtyard in front of the Ohara Museum of Art Craft and Oriental Art Gallery and in front of the Annex.
This was the first time it had been held.

Inside the venue
After taking care of some errands, I arrived at the venue shortly after 1 p.m.
The weather was good that day (November 26, 2023), and many tourists were visiting the Bikan Historical Area.
There was also an information sign in front of the Ohara Museum of Art Main Building.
I headed to the venue.
When I entered the venue, several shops had already closed up for the day…
When I asked a staff member, they told me that many customers had come from the start, and many shops had sold out early.
“I got here late this time, so there’s nothing I can do about it.” With that, I cheered myself up and looked around the venue.

You can enter the courtyard of the Ohara Museum of Art without going into the museum.
It is a spacious area for the Bikan Historical Area, and tourists often take a break there, though some people may have felt a little hesitant to go in.
I think using it to host a marche is a great idea.
I heard it was held for the first time, and I hope it will continue to be held in the future.
