Eggs, rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins, are also called complete nutritional food and are one of the ingredients you want to keep stocked in your refrigerator.

I also love eggs, and I remember that when I was a child, my lunch boxes always contained egg dishes like tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet) and boiled eggs.

Since eggs are something we consume daily, I recommend Sakamoto Egg for those who want to purchase eggs with a clear production process.

Handling everything from production to processing, Sakamoto Egg's direct sales store opened in Mizushima Shopping Street in April 2025. The store is surprisingly located within a consultation support office for people with disabilities.

Eggs and welfare for people with disabilities?

Let me introduce Sakamoto Egg's Mizushima Shopping Street direct sales store, which operates through this seemingly unusual collaboration.

Sakamoto Egg's Mizushima Shopping Street direct sales store closed in April 2026.
The information provided is from when it was in operation.

What is "Sakamoto Egg"?

Sakamoto Egg

Sakamoto Egg Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Sakamoto Egg") was founded in 1966 in Mizushima and is an egg producer.
Initially, it manufactured tamagoyaki for industrial meals for companies within the Mizushima Industrial Complex.

Since 2003, it has also started producing home-use products such as egg tofu and chawanmushi (savory egg custard), and in 2011, it established its own poultry farm in Bisei-cho, Ibara City. Centered around Mizushima, where the main factory is located, and Bisei-cho, where the poultry farm is located, it has been developing a wide range of businesses, including collaborative products with the community and hosting marche events.

As of August 2025, the direct sales stores are as follows:

  • Mizushima Headquarters Factory Direct Sales Store (since May 2020)
  • Sakamoto Egg Bisei Direct Sales Store (since April 2021)
  • Sakamoto Egg Mizushima Shopping Street Direct Sales Store (since April 2025)
  • Sakamoto Egg Bikan Historical Area Store (since July 2025)
Shop cards of each direct sales store

The Bisei Direct Sales Store offers fresh morning-harvested eggs, and the Bikan Historical Area Store allows customers to make their own egg gelato and add toppings, making it characteristic that the lineup slightly differs at each store.

Additionally, to "pursue genuine value together with the community," they also produce fermented feed for the chickens in-house.

Recommended Menu

At the Mizushima Shopping Street Direct Sales Store, not only processed products like tamagoyaki and chawanmushi but also raw eggs are sold.

I asked Akiyoshi Sakamoto from Sakamoto Egg and Masakazu Sato from Irodori about their recommended menu items.

The most popular product at the Mizushima Shopping Street Direct Sales Store is the egg sandwich.
Four types of egg sandwiches are in stock every Wednesday morning.

  • Boiled Egg Sandwich: 420 yen
  • Marinated Egg Sandwich: 420 yen
  • Thick Omelet Sandwich: 420 yen
  • Chicken Soboro Sandwich: 470 yen

All prices include tax

When I visited the Mizushima Shopping Street Direct Sales Store after 1 PM, they were already sold out.
Since they do not accept reservations, those who want to secure one should visit before noon.

The base sandwich is the "boiled egg sandwich."
The other flavors are variations of it, such as marinated egg, thick omelet, and chicken soboro, so for those trying Sakamoto Egg's egg sandwich for the first time, the boiled egg sandwich is recommended.

Dashimaki Tamago

Dashimaki Tamago

"Dashimaki Tamago" is a product that has been manufactured for many years as an industrial meal for workers in the Mizushima Industrial Complex, and it can be considered a representative product of Sakamoto Egg.

The fluffy dashimaki tamago can be eaten as is, making it perfect as an additional dish for dinner or as a snack with drinks. The staff at Irodori reportedly also eat it as part of their lunch boxes.

Egg Custard from the Egg Shop

Egg Custard from the Egg Shop

The "Egg Custard from the Egg Shop," made luxuriously with in-house produced Hoshinosato eggs and domestic ingredients, is characterized by its generous chunks of ingredients.

While it is delicious when warmed, it is also delicious when eaten cold, making it easy to eat even during the hot summer months.

There are also various types of chawanmushi, and as of late July 2025, the following lineup was available:

  • Egg Custard from the Egg Shop with Bisei Shiitake
  • Egg Custard from the Egg Shop with Shrimp
  • Egg Custard from the Egg Shop with Crab
  • Egg Custard from the Egg Shop with Anago (conger eel)
  • Egg Custard from the Egg Shop with Chinese Cabbage Kimchi
  • Chilled Egg Custard from the Egg Shop with Edamame
  • Chilled Egg Custard from the Egg Shop with Corn

An egg shop and a consultation support office for people with disabilities.
These two seemingly different entities have joined hands to operate the Mizushima Shopping Street Direct Sales Store for three months.
We interviewed both parties about their thoughts.
