Take off your shoes at the entrance and enter the store as if visiting a friend's house.

TEA ROOM UP FIELD” is a specialty store where you can enjoy authentic tea, creating an atmosphere as if you have been invited to someone's home. Even those who feel that “I don't know much about tea” or “specialty stores seem hard to enter” will be fine. Once you step inside, a sense of comfort spreads, naturally easing the tension in your shoulders.

Let me introduce “TEA ROOM UP FIELD,” where you can casually enjoy tea.

What is the tea specialty store “TEA ROOM UP FIELD”?

The person who responded to the interview was Reiko Nogami, who serves as a tea advisor at the store.

In fact, the surname “Nogami” is said to be the origin of the store name “UP FIELD.” The store opens at noon and has irregular holidays, so it is recommended to confirm by phone before visiting.

Entering with shoes off, a relaxing interior

Welcoming you at the entrance is a smiling welcome board.

In the living room-like space, there are four table seats and two counter seats, with a household piano catching the eye.

On the built-in bookshelf, there are numerous books about tea and sweets. It seems you can freely touch both the piano and the books.

In the aquarium next to the entrance, goldfish of various sizes were swimming gently.

The menu describes the characteristics of the origin and flavor of each tea. If you are unsure about what to order, feel free to consult with the staff. They can provide advice tailored to your preferences.

Tea is served in a teapot, allowing you to enjoy a generous amount, enough for about two cups.

As of July 2026, food menus such as omelets have been discontinued, and the focus is now on tea and dessert menus.

If you want to order the British-style afternoon tea set, don't forget to make a reservation at least three days in advance.

Enjoy authentic tea and freshly baked scones

During the interview, I enjoyed two types of tea and a scone plate.

Darjeeling First Flush

Darjeeling is counted among the world's three major teas. I had the First Flush (spring-picked tea) from the three harvest seasons in spring, summer, and autumn.

It has a bright orange color, with a slightly greenish hue at the edges. The fresh aroma wafts through the nose, and the aftertaste leaves a subtle astringency. Although it is tea, it somehow reminds one of green tea.

Usually, pouring into the teacup is self-service. During the interview, Ms. Nogami demonstrated how to pour tea deliciously while teaching me.

Pouring tea

The key is to pour as if incorporating air. By being aware of a height of about 20 cm, the tea is poured while incorporating the surrounding air, enhancing the aroma.

When I saw the freshly brewed tea, there were many tiny bubbles floating on the surface.

Candy

Next, I had the Sri Lankan tea “Candy.”
Recommended for beginners, I decided to try it. The reason is its refreshing and easy-to-drink quality.

It has a mild flavor, with almost no astringency or acidity. It seems to pair well with both meals and sweets.

It seems that the teacups are also changed according to the tea, and the one used for Candy is a thick, plump cup. Perhaps because of that, it felt smooth on the palate.

Handmade Scones Available in 11 Varieties

On the scone plate, you can choose any three from the 11 varieties available.

The scones are made using the shop's unique recipe, which has been perfected through numerous experiments with the proportions of sugar, milk, butter, and vegetable powder. They are baked fresh upon ordering, allowing you to enjoy them piping hot.

Mr. Nogami describes the cracks that form on the sides as "the smiling child." When you use a fork to open them further, they indeed look like they are smiling wide, giving off an indescribable charm.

When held in hand, they are still warm, with a crispy exterior and a crumbly, soft texture inside. Topping them with the accompanying jam or whipped cream adds a tangy and milky flavor. Each type of scone has a different flavor and texture, and I quickly devoured them while enjoying the differences.

I spoke with tea advisor Reiko Nogami about her encounter with tea and the background of her opening the shop.
