I spoke with Tetsu Miyazaki, the representative of G.O.A.T, about the origin of the store name, the story of its opening, and future prospects.

The origin of the store name comes from a rebellious spirit towards the surroundings

First, please tell us the origin of the store name "G.O.A.T".

Miyazaki

After graduating from a university in Tokyo, I worked as a consultant at a consulting company in Tokyo.
However, I quit that company and started this shop.

At that time, I received various cold remarks from those around me, such as "It's foolish to quit a big company" and "You're an idiot for throwing away a stable job."

That's why I started the shop with the thought of "I will show them that even such a fool can do his best."

"GOAT" means goat in English.
At the same time, GOAT is a slang term for a fool or idiot.

Therefore, I deliberately chose the name GOAT, which means fool or idiot, as a rebellious spirit against the voices directed at me for quitting my company.

Also, "G.O.A.T" is an abbreviation for "The Greatest Of All Time".
This means "the greatest in history".

Thus, the store name also carries the thought of "A fool aiming for the greatest in history".

You see that there are periods between the letters in "G.O.A.T".
Since opening, I decided to put a dot on the sign for every goal I achieve.

There are three goals, and I have achieved two, so now there are two dots.

Actually, I recently achieved the third goal, so the third dot will be added soon.

Then it will be "G.O.A.T"!
I feel like I've finally reached the starting point.

I wanted to create a space where young people can have fun in Kurashiki

What was the reason for opening the store?

After leaving the consulting company, I went through several jobs and trained at a chicken restaurant in Tokyo.
After finishing my training at the chicken restaurant, I returned to my hometown, Kurashiki, and started G.O.A.T.

I had the desire to run a restaurant since my student days.

I spent my student days and my time at the consulting company in Tokyo, but when I returned to Kurashiki, I felt that there were few places for young people to have fun late at night.

Now that I have returned to Kurashiki, I still love Kurashiki.

When I was young, there were many places to play in Kurashiki.
But as an adult, there are fewer places to have fun.

I started to think that I wanted to do something about that situation and liven up Kurashiki.

So, I developed the feeling that I wanted to create a fun restaurant where people would want to go out together in my hometown.

There are many delicious restaurants in Kurashiki.
So, I decided to specialize in "fun".

I visited various restaurants in Tokyo and thought a darts bar would be nice, so I wanted to create a "fun space" where people can play darts.

In addition to darts, we also have karaoke.
We have table games like UNO and Life Game.

G.O.A.T is an "adult playground" where everyone can enjoy meals and drinks together!

Why did you choose the location in Ichibangai?

Because there was a redevelopment plan.

Since I wanted to create a space for young people to enjoy, it would be good to be in a place where young people can easily come.
Once the redevelopment is completed, young people will gather, so I thought Ichibangai would be a good choice.

While I was thinking that, I was fortunate to be introduced to this property by a real estate agent, and I decided to open the store.

I realized the difficulties of being at the top of the organization for the first time. But it's fun, including that

Since opening the store, have you felt any difficulties?

Miyazaki

I think I am not suited for organizations.
I am not good at being directed by people in higher positions...

I am the type who wants to do things freely.
That's why I opened this store.

Since opening, I have been doing things freely on my own.

However, recently I hired staff besides myself.
Also, I opened a second store in Mizushima.

For the first time, I became the one in charge of directing the organization.

Now that I am in a position to give directions, I truly feel the difficulties and responsibilities that come with it.
There are many things to think about and many things to care for, so it is really tough...

But, it is also fun in its own way.

Opening a restaurant is just the first step. I want to challenge various jobs in the future

Please tell us about your future prospects and thoughts on the community.

Miyazaki

Kurashiki still has few places for young adults to enjoy.
However, I believe we must liven up our hometown with our own hands, not leave it to others.

I think my generation and younger generations lack energy.
So, I run this store hoping to be a role model for my generation and those younger than me.

Also, I don't intend to be limited to the restaurant business.
For me, the restaurant is just a stepping stone.
I see it as the first step in entrepreneurship.

If there are fields of interest or areas that are needed, I want to challenge them actively.

I already have several fields I want to try, and I am thinking about various things.
