We spoke with the owner of "Yakiniku Toi"
We spoke with the owner of "Yakiniku Toi," Takakura Miyuki.

What was the background of opening the restaurant?
Takakura
Originally, there was a building called "Dondon Building" at this location, which housed a Korean restaurant called "Sakaba Rokka."
"Sakaba Rokka" closed in December 2021, and since I loved yakiniku, I decided to change the business type to a yakiniku restaurant.

After studying to operate a yakiniku restaurant, Yakiniku Toi opened in October 2022, marking a new start.
I thought that starting a yakiniku restaurant might make me lose my love for it, but my whole family still loves yakiniku, and we go out to eat at various places.
Since the predecessor was a Korean restaurant, you have a wide variety of menus besides yakiniku.
Takakura
Yes, the reason we have a rich menu of Korean dishes is because of that.
Popular items from the "Sakaba Rokka" days, like kimbap, are still enjoyed by regular customers from back then.

After my child-rearing responsibilities settled down, I started lunch service on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays only.
I created a lunch-only menu, which includes unique items like Wagyu roast beef plates and meat bowls, as well as popular Korean dishes like spicy beef tofu stew and kalguksu.
You often participate in events as well, right?
Takakura
Since we opened during the period of measures against the spread of COVID-19, bento sales were quite active. We were able to participate in various sales venues and could make 100 bento boxes at once.
I originally enjoyed participating in events to create fun spaces, so I prepared a food truck and participate in events whenever I have the opportunity.
I am grateful for the various connections.

What is the origin of the name "Yakiniku Toi"?
Takakura
Actually, "Toi" comes from the fact that we have a toy poodle. The sound is cute, isn't it?
It also plays on the word "TOY" for children's toys.

Having raised children for a long time, I have always wanted to create a place where families can enjoy themselves without hesitation.
Are you aware of the Momokko Card (Okayama Child-Rearing Support Passport), which is a unique initiative in Okayama to support child-rearing throughout the community?
Our restaurant also sponsors this, and we offer a complimentary drink to those who present the card.
Since we have many customers from the child-rearing generation, I would be happy if they think, "I look forward to going to Yakiniku Toi and eating yakiniku!"
I hope to create a restaurant that families will remember visiting for yakiniku even after their children grow up.
Conclusion
"I want to eat yakiniku!"
When people think that, they are surely imagining not only delicious meat but also the people and places they will be with.
That is why I believe that a space where conversations flow and a comfortable atmosphere are important.

"Yakiniku Toi" is a restaurant that provides such special moments.
Whether with family, a partner, friends, or even alone, feel free to visit and enjoy memorable moments.
