Café Biscuit - The reason why cigar fries are loved. Kajitani Foods' first directly managed store.

café BISCUIT(カフェビスキュイ)

café BISCUIT” is the first antenna shop of Kajitani Foods.

When it comes to Kajitani Foods' “Cigar Fry,” it has been loved as a classic snack by the people of Okayama for over half a century, alongside Okayama Kimuraya's “Banana Roll.”

The way to enjoy biscuits and dips, as well as the morning menu available until noon, is also appealing.

“I can't help but passionately talk about Cigar Fry and Banana Roll!”

This is café BISCUIT, filled with love for Okayama.

As a resident of Okayama for over 10 years, I have encountered many things in Okayama and Kurashiki that I still do not know!

A healing space in the courtyard. café BISCUIT located in Kurashiki Teien

In the main area of the Bikan Historical Area, along the Kurashiki River, is “Kurashiki Teien.”

Opened in 2014, Kurashiki Teien is a complex facility created by renovating a town house. The first shop you encounter is “café BISCUIT.”

Kurashiki Teien

A layout of Kurashiki Teien. It is built in a long row of townhouses.

In addition to café BISCUIT, there are two other shops:

It’s a bit of a hidden spot.

For Kajitani Foods, café BISCUIT is their first directly managed store.

“We want people outside Okayama to know about Kajitani's biscuits,” so they also offer gift sets and items for presents.

Kurashiki Teien alley

The small path leading from the entrance of Kurashiki Teien.
The door of the shot bar “Salon de Ric’s” can be seen at the very back. It has a great atmosphere!

Kurashiki Teien terrace

As you move a little further, there are terrace seats overlooking the courtyard. It’s spacious and has a nice atmosphere.

Kurashiki Teien courtyard

From the courtyard, you can see the sky above.

While there are places like this courtyard in the Bikan Historical Area, Kurashiki Teien is also a calm and quiet space.

A biscuit-colored interior? Retro-modern and calming

Entrance of café BISCUIT

The entrance of café BISCUIT has sliding doors. You can feel the remnants of the town house.

Inside café BISCUIT

Let’s enter the interior of café BISCUIT. On the right side, there is a counter for ordering drinks and food.

The overall interior is unified in warm colors, creating a cozy atmosphere. Could it be the color of biscuits?

Gift corner

The gift corner located on the opposite side of the counter.
In addition to Kajitani Foods' biscuits, you can find Okayama Kimuraya's special banana cream, orange cream, and more.

Kajitani Foods and Okayama Kimuraya are actually sister companies in the same group (their factories are also next to each other).

Inside café BISCUIT

On the left side after entering the shop, there are eat-in seats. The red and white chairs are retro and cute!

It seems that there are many tourists on weekdays, but on holidays, many local Okayama customers also come.

café BISCUIT folk crafts

In the back of the eat-in area, folk crafts are displayed. They are quite charming, so I couldn't help but take a photo.

The works displayed at café BISCUIT are handled by the “Japanese Folk Toy Museum” and “+1GALLERY.”

café BISCUIT toaster

What stood out in the shop was about ten open toasters.

The toasters are prepared for the morning toast. Customers can toast their bread in the toaster of their choice.

“Are they for sale?” is a question often asked by customers…”

said a representative from Kajitani Foods. You can try out the toasters here.

Biscuits take center stage! The menu at café BISCUIT

Food and drinks are ordered at the counter. Payment is made in advance.

Payment methods include cash, as well as electronic money (iD, QUICPay, transportation IC cards, Rakuten Edy). Various credit cards are also accepted.

Biscuit cup

You can also enjoy a biscuit cup that is easy to eat while walking.

When you think of Kajitani Foods, “Cigar Fry” comes to mind, but they also sell new products like the milk biscuit on the right.

Caramel Cigar Fry seems great for eating on the go.

It is a café BISCUIT limited product, with caramel coating on the crispy Cigar Fry.

Menu at café BISCUIT

For example, if you order the following items, you can enjoy them for 550 yen (tax included).

Product NamePrice (tax included)
Hot Coffee320 yen
Biscuits120 yen
Dips110 yen

The set menu allows you to choose three types of biscuits. It’s perfect for someone indecisive like me who wants to try everything…!

The morning menu is available from 8 AM to noon. It’s a valuable shop in the Bikan Historical Area, where it’s easy to become a morning refugee.

In fact, the reason I found out about café BISCUIT was also because of the morning menu.

I wandered around the Bikan Historical Area with an empty stomach, and finally arrived at this shop.

Dip Menu

You can choose from 10 types of dips. There is the special banana cream from Okayama Kimuraya, orange cream, and a hearty olive oil with a salty flavor.

The premium Shimizu white peach cream is a limited product available only at the Okayama Kimuraya directly managed store in Aeon Mall Okayama. When you hear it's limited, you can't help but wonder what it tastes like.

  • Choice of biscuit cup or Jirisan Jersey yogurt
Cafe Biscuit Toaster

The toaster introduced earlier is actually brought to the table so you can toast your bread!

Cafe Biscuit Toaster

The recommended toaster is from "Loyalty Company" in England. It is said to produce toast like that from hotels and restaurants. I am very much looking forward to it.

The staff at the store will kindly teach you how to use the toaster.

Dips that come with the toast. I chose the classic banana cream and the limited premium Shimizu white peach cream.

Cafe Biscuit Toast Set

You can compare three types of biscuits.

  • Limited product "Caramel Cigar Fry"
  • Light texture "Butter Cracker"
  • Slightly milky "Milk Biscuit"

It's nice to have something to nibble on while waiting for the toast to finish baking.

In the meantime, the toast has finished baking.

Cafe Biscuit Toast

It looks deliciously toasted. I'm happy it's hot.

Kimuraya Banana Cream

The inside is fluffy, and the outside is crispy and fragrant toast. It pairs perfectly with the banana cream.

This is my first time trying the banana cream.
It has a light fluffiness and an indescribably fleeting sweetness. The nostalgic aroma of banana.

Ah, I can only say this is the "taste of banana cream."

Finally, I have come to know the nostalgic taste of Okayama.

Hot Sandwich Set with Melting Hot Cheese

Cafe Biscuit Hot Sandwich Set

This is the Hot Sandwich Set (740 yen: tax included). The contents of the set are the same as the toast set.

You can choose from the following four fillings. This time, I chose ham & cheese.

  • Ham & Cheese
  • Bacon & Egg
  • Teriyaki Chicken & Jag Cheese
  • Apple Cheesecake
Cafe Biscuit Hot Sandwich Set

Okayama Kimuraya's bread is filled with roast ham, cheese, mayonnaise, and ketchup.

The cheese melts beautifully, and the presence of the ham stands out within it.

Thanks to the deliciousness of Kimuraya's bread, I finished it in no time.

Cafe Biscuit Hot Sandwich Set

The biscuits are the following three types.

  • Cigar Fry
  • Crunchy and Crispy
  • Caramel Cigar Fry

The caramel cigar fry is slightly sweet and fragrant, making it delicious enough to eat as much as you want.

Crunchy and Crispy White Peach Cream

I tried putting the premium Shimizu white peach cream on the crunchy and crispy biscuit.

Even though it's a small bite, the juicy aroma of white peach spreads throughout my mouth. This is surprisingly delicious.

“What goes well with bread also goes well with biscuits.”

This is what the person in charge said, and it really does match!!

A Gift of Okayama's Favorite Snacks! Also Popular as Wedding Favors

café BISCUIT (Cafe Biscuit)

A stylish gift corner lined with products from Kajitani Foods.

Many Okayama residents realize it's a direct store of Kajitani Foods when they see the biscuits on the shelf.

Cafe Biscuit Momotaro Gift

A unique "Momotaro Package" from Okayama for 900 yen (tax included).

The Momotaro Package contains the following four types.

  • Cigar Fry
  • Crunchy and Crispy
  • Butter Cracker
  • Milk Biscuit
Cafe Biscuit White Wall Package

Especially recommended is this "White Wall Package" for 700 yen (tax included). The author previously gifted this white wall package as a souvenir, and

I received great feedback saying, "It's cute, it fits the Bikan Historical Area, and it's delicious!"

The reasonable price of 700 yen (tax included) is also a nice point.

Kimuraya's cream

Okayama Kimuraya's special banana cream, orange cream, and premium Shimizu white peach cream are also on sale.

The banana roll, a favorite of talent Inoue from the duo Jichou Kachou, uses this banana cream.

It seems that people in Okayama are divided into banana cream fans and orange cream fans...?

Cigar fry (in craft bag) and in a bottle

And the bestseller product, cigar fry (in craft bag), is priced at 400 yen (tax included).

Cigar fry was introduced by the comedian Chidori, who is from Okayama Prefecture, on the program "Hamachan ga!"

It seems that Downtown's "Hamachan (Masakatsu Hamada)" also praised it as delicious!

Cafe Biscuit bottled biscuits

The stylish packaging is also used for wedding favors.

Kajiya's biscuits, which have been familiar since childhood, are chosen as snacks. You can feel the love for Kajiya among the people of Okayama.

"The unchanging taste" is the motto. The future of Kajiya Foods

Staff Mitsuko Ishihara
Staff Mitsuko Ishihara

"The charm of Kajiya Foods is its familiar taste that has not changed for 60 years,"

said staff member Mitsuko Ishihara.

Even as times change, it has become a beloved long seller because they have sincerely and steadily faced biscuits simply.

"It is important to continue to properly communicate what we have now,"

The sense of security that cigar fry remains unchanged, no matter where you go or what you do.

I felt a little envious of the people of Okayama.

Cafe Biscuit sign

The new endeavor of Kajiya Foods, "the unchanging taste," can be found at Cafe Biscuit.

The first directly managed store has been established, a place where they can see the faces of customers, which has given Kajiya Foods a sense of purpose.

Cafe Biscuit may become a store that connects people with Kajiya Foods, as well as offering new deliciousness and ways to enjoy biscuits.

Cigar fry and banana cream, loved by the people of Okayama.

I hope that someday, they will also become a familiar and nostalgic taste for me.
