Obanzai-ya Yorimichi - A place of relaxation with a homely atmosphere and cuisine. A shop that makes you want to "stop by."

よりみち:おばんざい

When eating out, is it always a luxurious meal, a high-calorie meal, or a stylish meal?

It's fine to eat out occasionally, but if you do it often, you inevitably get tired of it, right?

In such cases, wouldn't it be nice to have a place where you can enjoy home-cooked meals?

That's why I recommend "Obanzai-ya Yorimichi" located in Kawanishi-cho, Kurashiki City.

Yorimichi is a place where you can enjoy home-style "obanzai."

Moreover, the main obanzai changes daily.

The interior has a cozy atmosphere, making you feel like you're at home.

Let me introduce "Obanzai-ya Yorimichi," a place where you might just want to take a little detour!

Yorimichi is a cozy, homey place

Yorimichi: Exterior

Yorimichi is located about 500 meters southwest of JR Kurashiki Station and about 500 meters west of the Bikan Historical Area.

It is a small shop run by a young owner.
There are a total of 11 seats in the cozy interior.

▼There are 7 counter seats.

Yorimichi: Interior

▼Additionally, there is one table for four people.

Yorimichi: Interior

Although it is a small shop, the close distance between the customers and the owner is a characteristic of Yorimichi.
It is a very lively place where it is easy for the owner and customers, as well as customers with each other, to talk.

Yorimichi is a relaxing space that feels just like home, and it is loved by customers as a place of respite in the community.

The charm of Yorimichi is its home-style obanzai!

Yorimichi: Obanzai

The signature menu of Yorimichi is "obanzai."

The other regular menu items also look delicious.

Each dish has the charm of a homemade, home-style flavor.

"Today's Obanzai" features about 6 different dishes daily

"Today's Obanzai" changes daily.
There are usually about 6 different dishes each day.

It becomes exciting to think, "What will today's obanzai be?"

We consider the balance of vegetables, meat, and fish when making the dishes.
We also think about offering a variety of options, including Japanese, Western, and Chinese!

The obanzai available during the interview included the following types.

Yorimichi: Obanzai Menu during Interview

  • Potato salad
  • Broccoli
  • Fried rice vermicelli
  • Nikujaga (meat and potatoes)
  • Simmered flatfish
  • Hamburger steak

All the obanzai dishes are homey and relaxing, just like what you would have for dinner at home.

You can also order rice, so I think it's a good idea to have it as a side dish.

Potato Salad

Yorimichi: Potato Salad

A popular menu item for both children and the elderly is "Potato Salad."

Yorimichi: Potato Salad

The star ingredient, the potato, has a wonderfully smooth texture.
And you can taste the gentle sweetness of the potato.

▼The ingredients included sliced sausage.

The crispy texture of the sausage, along with its savory flavor and saltiness, adds an accent that makes it addictive.

Broccoli

Yorimichi: Broccoli

Simply boiled "broccoli" is perfect when you want something light.

Fried Rice Vermicelli

The "fried rice vermicelli" also looks delicious.

The fragrant flavor of sesame oil is irresistible.

The firm texture of the shrimp adds an accent to the dish.

Nikujaga (Meat and Potatoes)

Yorimichi: Nikujaga

The representative of Japanese home cooking, "Nikujaga!"

The moment I saw it on the menu, I thought, "I definitely want to eat nikujaga."

Yorimichi: Nikujaga

▼ The nikujaga at Yorimichi has large pieces of potato.

Yorimichi: Nikujaga

Therefore, it has a very fluffy texture.

▼ Furthermore, the flavor penetrated well to the core of the potato.

Yorimichi: Nikujaga

▼ The carrots, onions, and beef were the same, and the flavor was well absorbed.

Yorimichi: Nikujaga

The sweet and savory seasoning is just right for a snack with sake, but it also pairs perfectly with rice.

Yorimichi: Nikujaga

I wanted to order more rice.

Simmered Flounder

Yorimichi: Simmered Flounder

The Simmered Flounder was very tender and well-cooked.

Yorimichi: Simmered Flounder

▼ The flesh was so tender it was like melting.

Yorimichi: Simmered Flounder

▼ The skin was plump.

Yorimichi: Simmered Flounder

And the sweet flavor with a strong ginger taste.
It makes you want rice.

Yorimichi: Simmered Flounder

I used to occasionally cook simmered fish, but it is simple yet difficult.
It was hard to make simmered fish that was just the right tenderness and well-flavored.

The simmered flounder at Yorimichi is a delicious example that I would like to emulate.

Simmered Hamburger Steak

Yorimichi: Simmered Hamburger Steak

The Simmered Hamburger Steak is a popular menu item for both children and adults.

Yorimichi: Simmered Hamburger Steak

▼ The simmered hamburger steak is small in size, with two pieces served per portion.

Yorimichi: Simmered Hamburger Steak

Even though they are small, they are thicker than expected.

▼ Inside, they were very juicy.

Yorimichi: Simmered Hamburger Steak

You can fully enjoy the flavor of the meat, and it was delicious.

▼ The sauce on the hamburger steak is homemade demi-glace sauce.

Yorimichi: Simmered Hamburger Steak

The sauce is very rich, sweet, and delicious.
Additionally, it contains ingredients like shimeji mushrooms and onions, which is a nice touch.

Yorimichi: Simmered Hamburger Steak

The hamburger steak was so delicious that I ordered another serving, totaling four pieces.

Like the nikujaga and simmered dishes, the hamburger steak also makes you crave rice.

Here, we will introduce some recommended menu items.

Three Types of "Dashi-Maki Tamago" Recommended

Yorimichi: Dashi-Maki Tamago (Yellow Chives)

Among the regular menu items, the top recommendation from the owner, Mizoguchi, is the "Dashi-Maki Tamago".

The feature of Yorimichi's Dashi-Maki Tamago is that you can choose from three types.

The types of Dashi-Maki Tamago are as follows:

  • Plain (no ingredients)
  • Yellow Chives
  • Spicy Cod Roe

▼In particular, it is recommended to try the "Dashi-Maki Tamago with Yellow Chives", which is a specialty of Okayama Prefecture.

Yorimichi: Dashi-Maki Tamago (Yellow Chives)

The gentle flavor of the dashi and the unique flavor of the yellow chives provide an accent.

▼The Dashi-Maki Tamago with Yellow Chives has a fluffy texture of the egg, combined with the crunchy texture of the yellow chives, making it interesting.

Yorimichi: Dashi-Maki Tamago (Yellow Chives)

I thought it was delicious even without soy sauce.

I am also curious about the plain and spicy cod roe Dashi-Maki Tamago.
Next time I come, I definitely want to try these as well.

"Yorimichi Kimagure Salad" Changes with Your Mood When Ordering

If you're looking for a salad, I recommend the "Yorimichi Kimagure Salad".

▼The characteristic of the "Yorimichi Kimagure Salad" is that the contents change with each order.

Yorimichi: Kimagure Salad

During the interview, it contained broccoli, sunny lettuce, and ham with sesame dressing.

The ingredients change based on the owner's mood!

While daily specials are common, having the contents change with each order is rare, so I think it will be fun to see what kind of salad it will be.

Crispy Fried "Chicken Karaage"

Fried food pairs perfectly with beer.

At Yorimichi, there are fried dishes such as "Chicken Karaage", "Soft Bone Karaage", and "French Fries".

▼During the interview, I had the chicken karaage.

Yorimichi: Chicken Karaage

▼The chicken karaage is freshly fried, so the coating is crispy.

Yorimichi: Chicken Karaage

And from within the crispy coating, the meat was very juicy and had a plump texture.

Yorimichi: Chicken Karaage

The seasoning was mild, but I could smell garlic and ginger, and I thought it was very delicious.

A Classic for Cold Days: "Oden" Well Soaked in Dashi

It is substantial, and the flavor of the oden dashi seeps deeply, providing a gentle taste that permeates the five viscera and six bowels.

▼Next, one of my favorites, "Beef Tendon".

Yorimichi: Oden Beef Tendon

▼The beef tendon is simmered thoroughly and is tender.

Yorimichi: Oden Beef Tendon

And you can also enjoy the deep flavor of the beef tendon.

Yorimichi: Oden Beef Tendon

▼The "chikuwa" has absorbed the dashi well and is soft.

The surrounding fried kamaboko is also thick and satisfying.

Mainly, the following types are available.

Ishichi Kurashiki Ginjo is a junmai ginjo sake made with the famous sake rice Yamada Nishiki.
I enjoyed it chilled, and it had a very fruity and refreshing aroma.

In addition to the regular menu drinks, there are also seasonal limited drinks available.

The drinks available during the interview were the following two types.

  • Man'nenyuki Arasubari

▼The Kōbashi Tea Highball is made by placing a teabag containing leaves of Shizuoka green tea, domestic genmaicha, and domestic matcha into a glass, along with shōchū (barley) and water.

Yorimichi: Kōbashi Tea Highball

It was appealing to enjoy the nice aroma of the tea while getting tipsy.
It pairs well with the food.
